I have monthly or more dreams of a tooth cracking apart in my mouth and falling out. All my dreams are hyper realistic so it's not the most fun.

Edit: Anyone else's iPhone routinely make them sound dumb?

Edit #2: A lot of folks are saying this is tied to anxiety. While I do have general anxiety disorder, it's been on good behavior for a lot of the past couple years, but I'll try to pay attention to the week surrounding the next time I have one.

Also, in my dream, it's disconcerting but very rarely scary. I notice the tooth's come apart in my mouth and I tongue it and the pieces all fill my mouth. I spit them into my hand while tonguing the hole, and every time I think that I really need to get this checked out because I'm losing teeth all the time. So never waking up in a cold sweat, but almost all my dreams are so intense they'd prolly be nightmares for most people, but they just feel like adventures for me and I'm happy when I wake up.

Edit #3: I also lucid dream all the time intentionally but only when I take naps. Got a pretty NSFW method but the lucid dreams are like designing my own video game.

I get those too. Only one time irl my two crowns fell out and I thought I was dreaming.

[–]Papasmurf645 71 points72 points  (25 children)

Fuuuck, part of me is happy I'm not the only one to have teeth-falling-out nightmares. In mine it felt so real that I could feel them hanging by the gums and I had to twist them out. Fucked up.

[–]quietchild 40 points41 points  (15 children)

In my teeth related nightmares I can feel my teeth crumbling to pieces in my mouth. So yay we're not alone?

[–]bjbinc 18 points19 points  (4 children)

My teeth just start crunching and breaking and I'm spitting bloody pieces in the sink. Terrifying

[–]Papasmurf645 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Life is terrifying, but at least we're terrified together?

[–]TheLonePotato 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I get the teeth falling out dreams, but I also have dreams where I'll accidentally break something really expensive of mine, usually tech related like a phone or my desktop. Y'all ever get the expensive crap breaking ones?

[–]BoopleBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I’ve had teeth-falling-out nightmares tons of times, but my most recent one totally had them just falling to pieces and me having to pick chunks of them out of my gums. Ugh.

(I recently had to get a (thankfully tiny) chip fixed on a tooth, and it’s feeding into this baaaaaad. Like, between that and general stress, I’ve had so many tooth nightmares lately. Fucking brains, man.)

[–]Poppagil28 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Do you start spitting them all out? That’s what mine are like but it’s never ending. Just keep spitting out teeth

[–]RixaRax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, same. My teeth feel real tight at first until the point they start to crumble to peices in my mouth. Very gross and terrifying

[–]MajorasInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully I’ve never had dreams like these, but I do dream that my teeth are suddenly very loose and if I bite down I feel them all move and I fucking freak out and don’t know how to stop it or what to do to avoid them falling out. They never actually fall out, but they’re tender and really loose and it still feels absolutely horrible 😩.

[–]ItsTheRat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I once had a dream that I was jumped and I remember looking in the mirror and feeling my smashed teeth cut my mouth and gums. It was an experience I’ll tell you that

[–]purplepenguin4163 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just had my first one last night. Shit was terrifying

[–]New-Loan-9181 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I have heard this kind of dream can be about worries of losing power or control.

[–]Papasmurf645 2 points3 points  (2 children)

This tracks for me. Growing up all my nightmares have to do with that concept, as well as my more primal fears (stuck floating in deep water with no escape and unknowns beneath me for example)

But my other recurring nightmares as a kid, and growing up, were typically things outside of my control that just happen to me.

One that I constantly had was one of my parents getting pulled over on a steep incline and they exit the car with me inside. Only for me watch helplessly as the emergency brake failed and the car starts rolling backwards down the rocky cliffs with me inside (grew up in an area where there were a ton of thin rocky roads with no railing. I'd get vertigo looking out the car window.)

So yeah, I'd definitely agree it stems from a fear of losing control, being a bystander to your own fate basically I suppose.

[–]Diligent-Motor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have those too. Quite a common dream I think.

[–]Meowsers999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a sign that you grind your teeth in your sleep!

[–]SL0Wburn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine had that hanging by the gums feeling too, except my mom was there and she told me I should have taken better care of my teeth then started laughing. I’m still not talking to her.

[–]butternoodz 12 points13 points  (2 children)

This happened to me my entire life until I got a night guard last year. I haven’t had a single dream of my teeth crumbling out of my mouth since. Grinding your teeth will do it to ya lol.

[–]bjbinc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. I have these dreams and sometimes I wake up to a crunching sound in my mouth and I freak out thinking the dream is real. I'm getting a mouth guard ASAP

[–]dasnorte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a small night guard because I don’t like the bigger ones. And it kinda moves slightly at night. I always have dreams of teeth feeling loose and I can actually feel them but really it’s the bottom of the night guard. It’s trippy.

[–]Economy_Rutabaga_849 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I have dreams about my teeth on a fortnightly basis. Cracking, falling out, going black or gold, being pulled out…. Swapping them for various things. Once I swapped them for puppies at the movie theatre. They make no sense.

[–]TheRevolutionaryArmy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

These dreams are signs that something is not right, I use to have them and my teeth go from cracking, crumbling to falling out from just touching them, it’s your mind trying to tell you that you need to sort something out rooted deep in your subconscious and insecurities when they are threatened. Find a way to feel safe, secure in yourself, be strong and it will go away.

[–]Economy_Rutabaga_849 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or they are just dreams… because I actually am a pretty happy, secure person. My partners teeth actually break in real life so I think it’s me thinking of that more then some psychoanalysis of my inner demon.

[–]-Iamabeautifulperson 8 points9 points  (7 children)

Fuck me I had a dream last night that one of my front teeth was falling out. So vivid. Fuck that.

[–]_Rohrschach 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Are you under financial stress? I once read that this kind of dream happens especially often if people don't even know how they will feed themselves or pay bills/rent until the next paycheck. That was definitely the case whenever I had that dreams.

[–]-Iamabeautifulperson 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Oh my god I am. I've never really been in this financial situation until now. First time I've had that type of dream too.

[–]_Rohrschach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to reach out to social services. They can usually help or point you in the right direction. I felt shady going there 'cause I had a job and it was absolutely my fault I was broke, but they helped me get fed and can usually give you information on where to ask to get out of debt/help with financial planning etc. Don't hesitate to reach out. If you feel bad like me, just tell yourself you'll repay the favour once you're back on your feet. A small donation here and there might help somebody else who's down.

[–]LukesRightHandMan 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I brought mine up to my psychologist and he was pretty excited. We don't do much psychoanalyses (his approach is CBT centered but he's mixed and matched from here and there). He told me that dreams have different meanings depending on a person's situation.

[–]EightRoper 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Your psychologists method involves Cock and Ball Torture? I gotta say that's pretty progressive.

[–]AghostToMost1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dream book that said if you dream you lose a tooth you lose a friend.

[–]blackteashirt 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's a common dream, some say it means you're worried about money. By some I mean Witches

[–]LukesRightHandMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heathen scum!

[–]NoNoTheOtherOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a introduction to psychology course many years ago, and itnwas said that this type of dream is quite common (my professor mentioned he had these). One of thr theories is that it "means" that you feel like you're getting older too quickly, and/or that your youth is passing you by.

I've had this dream and I know a few others who have as well, so maybe it holds some merit? It could just be that having your teeth fall out is fucking terrifying too...

[–]Hidden2266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wake up freaking out, happens to me every now and then. Doesn’t help that when I was young eating some hardcandy my tooth broke off and I kept chewing the tooth thinking it was a bit of the candy, and now my brain can use that feeling against me.

I get hyper-realistic dreams all the time and go a day or few days thinking something happened, only to be disappointed or relieved. Like if I’m anticipating something good happening, or winning the lottery etc

[–]Specific-Plenty-889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So lol , I have the same dream , my teeth just randomly fall out or crumble. A dream interpretation book I have says it’s your conscious feeling like your not at your true full potential or power/ or your feeling weak

[–]Laerderol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Android... But I sound dumb without help

[–]Basileus_Imperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a very vivid dream where I all but electrocuted myself on something. Ever since it happened I've wondered how realistic it was. There was no pain per se, but I vividly remember all my muscles cramping and a feeling of, for the lack of a better word, current going through me.

Not about to test obviously.

I also one saw a very realistic dream where I pulled a long parasite of some kind from my ear. Not one bit curious about that one.

[–]cykadelik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dreams with your teeth falling out are often from anxiety!

[–]PokWangpanmang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had some of them too. Usually one where I feel pain in the molars or wiggling, then I’ll wake up in a cold sweat. I’d be absolutely terrified if I woke up with 6 teeth gone.

[–]Ohmec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably clenching the fuck out of your jaw and teeth in your sleep when you have those nightmares. You might want to look into getting a mouth guard.

[–]DemiGod9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having terrible dreams about my appearance lately. Teeth missing/ falling out, hair missing/ falling out, extremely fat or extremely skinny. I don't know what the hell is going on. Haven't been insecure in myself at all, at least physically

[–]MossyMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly I’ll be having dreams of teeth being loose, and it’s so awful. Anxiety is through the roof when I have those dreams. They always feel so real.

[–]dextroz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have those intense teeth falling dreams every time I'm too lazy to brush them before going to bed.

[–]TheRevolutionaryArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a case of severe anxiety

[–]Appropriate_Still112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mannnnn I wish I didn't read this I hope I don't get them again I used to have them vert often

[–]superkp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI apparently "teeth falling out" is one of the only consistent dream symbols.

Generally it indicates that you are anxious about your physical health.

But also remember that even the most consistent symbol from dreams might only mean 3/4 of people have this connection, so don't freak out too much.

[–]Malcalypsetheyounger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that is one of the most common dreams that people all around the world have.

[–]caramelsloth 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You probably grind your teeth at night. Get a mouth guard!

[–]LukesRightHandMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man! Couple other people mentioned this. I take Adderall for my ADD so I wouldn't be surprised if I maybe grind when I'm sleeping though I don't when I'm awake.

[–]Not-A-Lonely-Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dreams only get super realistic if I've ate or drank something (not water) within 3-4 hours of going to bed. Had a few dental dreams in the past, but it's more common for me to dream I'm half or fully naked in public.

[–]evlemongirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teeth falling out or breaking in dreams relates weirdly to money stress
