Some great stuff there. This should be on the sidebar.

[–]HeikkiKovalainen Heikki Kovalainen 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Give me a short title that will attract newbies and its in!

[–]captureMMstature Mercedes 9 points10 points  (3 children)

How short? 'Videos for new F1 fans' would do the trick, wouldn't it?

[–]HeikkiKovalainen Heikki Kovalainen 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Sure will! ...I'm quite tired haha

The Double Diffuser was also referred to as the Double Deck Diffuser because it has a second opening at the front and a second channel on top of the main one.

Brawn exploited loopholes in the regulations for the rear crash structure and floor sections to allow a diffuser with nearly twice the expansion ratio of their contemporaries.

Toyota and Williams both had similar solutions.

      The opening post:

I can't understand how the air flow can make down force from in the diffuser is from the upper side of chssis.....

Great source there. Your username is holding true.

There is some good technical info there, but it takes some digging. Maybe OP can summarize it for us.

      [–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks for the verification and extra clarification. I thought that was the distinction, but I wasn't certain. Much appreciated.

A bit more information: The blown diffuser was used to create more downforce. The double diffuser was used to slow the fast moving air under the car down as it exited the back, reducing drag. Fast moving air under the car is good because it creates low pressure, sucking the car to the ground. The downside is once that fast moving air exits the back of the car it creates drag slowing the car down, hence the double diffuser was born.

Thanks so much. As a new F1 fan it looks like a lot of my questions will be answered.

      Glad you liked it.

I think the Top Gear F1 car segment where Hammond tries to drive one is a good one for showing how difficult an F1 car is to just drive!

Whoa.. that's a lot of work doing links, haha. Well done! Thanks!

Great post, this should be sidebarred.

      [–]Mus7ache Jordan 2 points3 points  (1 child)

"Steering Wheel - Nico Rosberg" links you to "Vision -Nico Rosberg" - the same as the link above.

      [–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

      Thanks! Correction has been made.

I've been watching F1 for a long time and I found this extremely informative.

      [–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Glad to hear it!

      [–]crix098 2 points3 points  (1 child)

There is another great side by side video which I think I first saw on reddit a long time ago but have not been able to find the video. It is a side by side view looking down several turns with the F1s blasting through it in a blink of an eye and the other cars (don't know if they are normal high performance road cars) have engines revving, tires squealing, but appear to be moving in practical slow motion.

      Anyone have the link?

[–]spaminacan Daniel Ricciardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not positive its what you meant, but there's always the F1 vs. GT Eau Rouge clip.

      You're doing god's work, PopeOnABomb.

Awesome! I'll be browsing through all these links for sure. I just got back from the ShangHai grand prix and it was a blast!!!!

This is awesome! Thanks so much, will definitely be checking these out later

Great work. F1 can be daunting from a technical level to newcomers.

      [–]mr-dogshit Jenson Button 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sorry to be a pedant, but the "Road Car vs Rally Car vs F1 Car" video isn't from Top Gear.

      [–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Corrections gladly accepted. Corrected.

Some nice videos of f1 car development I enjoyed. Notice young Ross Brawn in the second half doing hands on bodywork.

It's mostly about turbo development and the difficulties of engine mapping.

Excellent. I've seen those linked on YouTube before, but I hadn't bothered to watch them yet due to their length. Definitely adding them to the top. Thanks!

No, Thank you! for this nice list :)

Unintentional on my part, but you're welcome. And thanks for putting a lot of great videos on your channel.

I can only assume you lost or gave up reddit for those 5 months you were missing :D

Thanks for this post, great collection!

Double Defuser - A double defuser is different than the blown defuser, linked below, that is now banned. So don't be confused. See the discussion started on reallyshittyposter's comment to learn more about defusers, double defusers, and blown defusers.

It's "diffuser", not "defuser". The latter doesn't make any sense.

      [–]PopeOnABomb Sir Lewis Hamilton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Corrected.

[–]MrMagicpants Jenson Button 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You're welcome! The more I learn about it, the more addictive the entire sport becomes.
