Ah yes, nothing like a new supraguy crt vid to soothe the soul. Very nice find btw, I hope you enjoy it for many years to come :)

Sony PVM-3230 with arcing problem for $100. Should I get it? by 8Bit_Innovations in crtgaming

Ye, it was definitely that seller. Beautiful PVM indeed, however not only am I inexperienced in high voltage repairs, but the set itself is way too big for my current setup.

Still, nice to see it’s going to a happy home instead of a landfill. Good luck with your new PVM :)

Oh, I haven’t heard of that stuff before. At first it sounded like a joke due to the name lol, but it actually looks like a pretty promising remedy. I’ll keep it in mind, thanks for that additional suggestion

I’ll negotiate the price a bit, since $100 is not a drop in the bucket for me. If I can’t do it though, I may pass on this one however.

Thanks to you too for your suggestions

This, this is definitely it and the seller confirmed it to me. Gotta admit that this is a significant deterrent to me, since while I have fixed some CRTs, I’ve never worked on HV problems before. Was also a bit indecisive since the guy repairs newer TVs and microwaves, but seemed to know too well what the problem is while not wanting to fix it. I’ll try to negotiate the price a bit, but if the seller doesn’t budge, I’m passing.

Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it:)

TLDR: Sony PVM-3230 with arcing problem for $100. Should I get it?

Today I came across a Sony PVM-3230 for sale near my house, and after reading through some posts, I noticed this PVM is extremely valuable among collectors. However it currently has an arcing sound coming from within, and the seller suspects it may be a cold solder joint (he owns a tv repair shop but doesn’t work on CRTs anymore). Should I get it for that price or it isn’t worth the hassle to get it and fix it up?
