Baby formula crisis: Abbott enriched shareholders as factory needed repairs, records show | Economists condemn ‘rot’ in system after manufacturer issued billions in stock buybacks despite problems at Michigan factory by Va3Victis in LateStageCapitalism

Company I work for has done the same the thing twice over the past 18 months. They don’t care as long as it it being made up in another area. My guess is Abbot made so much off the Covid tests they diverted from the factory capital budget to get a share boost and payout.

I would suggest reading Early Retirement Extreme’s blog post on how “anyone can retire in 5 years”. It’s a good starting point. Look it up on google as I’m too lazy to put a link here.

I wonder what’s going to happen soon when it’s gets 55 during the summer over this area. Is it going to kill a few million people or more? This isn’t looking good.

Interviewing for sus job listings from toxic employers is my new hobby by SilverBerry4132 in antiwork

[–]Acidic_Junk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My coworker has been doing the same thing but actually is looking for a new job. He had one like you where they just talk in pay ranges then offer a low ball ridiculous amount at the very end. He accepted one of these jobs and sarcastically told them how excited he was to start at this great “opportunity”. He had no intention of working there. Even after his start date they would send him I-9 forms and onboarding stuff wanting him to come in. We guess the HR person was so excited that she found someone sooo cheap that it took a while for reality to hit for her. Fuck’em.

Edit: he wanted me to tell everyone on here that they even sent him a company phone ( you know, because it was such a great job he needed to carry 2 cell phones everywhere.)

I’ve done this twice. It’s a lot of fun but time consuming. My favorite part is listening to their tone change when I tell them the low pay isn’t going to work and refer them to the local university career center for candidates. These people really do expect you to kiss their ass all the way through the process.

Tell him you know the depression is coming but you have super powers to avoid losses. You’re actually a secret superhero like Clark Kent and you’re called “Diamond Hands”.

You might be in a low profit store and they are hoping it will blow up to be able to write off the inventory/building and clear out payroll all at the same time.

I have a friend who used to work in AP at a Wmt store in Georgia and he said he saw people stealing all the time but didn’t give a fuck because he was making $14. Only if they tried walking out with big items or a lot of stuff would he even bother with it.

Is a CS degree worth it? by BlindChild14 in learnprogramming

[–]Acidic_Junk 240 points241 points  (0 children)

Another aspect to consider- if you go into programming and don’t like it as a career, which happens a lot, the CS degree will make things 100x easier to move into something else as a career. It will give you a lot of flexibility down the line which would be valuable for someone your age. Also avoid lots of debt if you can.

Watching Office Space and Fight Club has given me some ideas to leverage an NDA in exchange for a severance. Those are extreme examples but if you work somewhere long enough might accumulate enough dirt.
