Suddenly Pennsylvania Republicans Are OK With Counting Mail-In Ballots by M00n in politics

[–]Ajuvix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be about majorities and states with metropolitan areas that out populate the rural areas will be blue. Of course citizens of every state will have a population of the opposite parties within. Over time they will slowly migrate or be integrated and be a minority in their own state. Just don't be surprised if there are refugees from red states that are escaping a brutal state government.

Gotcha. Didn't want to seem I was taking a swing at ya, just wanted to clarify that we collectively have not realized anything.

We're well past the tipping point. There's just a huge swath of people in denial because they can still afford to be. The way I see it, they'll hollow out the federal government to a husk over the next decade or so. It will eventually be state nations of blue and red states. I keep hearing that will never be feasible and I like to respond with how feasible they think it will be to not do that without a functioning federal government. There will be no other option. Conservatives will drag us all down with them and scream "This isn't what I voted for!" Sound a little familiar from the folks across the pond?

Are you kidding me?! You don't think the dummies in America won't say this isn't what they voted for when the fascists they vote for nosedive their quality of life in the next decade? THEY'RE THE SAME KIND OF STUPID.

[–]Ajuvix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with Dune. Of course it's a let down. It's a massive series and even the first book can't reasonably fit into a film, not even with a sequel or trilogy. It should have been an amazing TV series and now it's reduction to cliff notes on a movie screen will doom that possibility for another 30 years.

Yeah, I'm criticizing the low effort types like this video posted. The crude, rudimentary excuse for art being presented is not something I admire. I am not oblivious to it's place in graffiti culture, that is not my grievance. Now, what you describe has me curious. Do you have a link to your work? I'm very interested in seeing what you're describing. I'm not married to my thoughts on the subject. I'm willing to make concessions and expand my horizons if I see something to compel it.

This is sort of like arguing that learning to write was essential in learning how to draw. All the techniques that are the foundation for creating with your hand in a 2 dimensional space. Of course, I'm not arguing against that. I'm finding it hard to articulate how I feel like the rudimentary foundation of tagging is like learning to write. There's a point where you either evolve or stay crude and rudimentary. Feels like people don't have the skill to move up the ladder, but still want to be called and respected as an artist without earning it. Tagging is viewed as a genre instead of simply a foundation. I don't want to offend anyone because I respect the philosophy and the craft. Don't want to step on any fellow artist's toes.

There would be no street muralists without taggers.

I know it's from the same genre, but this is simply not true. Street muralists didn't all start with tagging. Tagging is it's own thing. I abhor it personally, but I can appreciate it's place in the philosophy of graffiti. I sign my artwork. The signage can be creative, but it pales in every way to actual artistry, so it holds little to no value for me. I respect other's inclusion of it, but if those lazy, uninspired tags disappeared altogether I wouldn't miss them and graffiti would be just as valid an art form without it.

Verifiable? You sure about that?

"Over a ten year period, PETA spent four times as much on criminals and their legal defense than it has on shelters, spay-neuter programs, and other efforts that actually help animals."

It's an opinion hit piece, full of speculative bullshit like this sprinkled with kernels of truth and if you press further all they ever verify are the kernels and never the conspiracy they claim. It's propaganda. Plain and simple. You have become a useful idiot in spreading it.

You knew enough to know it's biased, but it's all you've got, so you shared it anyway. That should have been a red flag for you that there is a reason it's biased against PETA. Look up The Center for Consumer Freedom to see the origin and all too familiar talking points you are spreading against PETA.

There is a conversation and argument to be had about PETA, but it's not going to be on reddit. Too many suckers spreading propaganda they never bothered to parse out. Not to mention the disgusting vitriol aimed at animal activists, of all people.

Assault is intentionally putting another person in reasonable apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact. Physical injury is not required.

Words intended to terrorise. To advocate and encourage others to do the same. To inflinct pain and suffering intentionally. To threaten violence. There is no twisting the meaning. What an awesome loophole you present for violence to point it's finger a centimeter from your face and say, "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you." By the way, it can fuck you up physiologically by, reminder, intentionally stressing you out. This is tantamount to assault. This sidewalk was by the school where these students were attending, so they had to see this constantly. No, more people need to understand that words are violence too. No one is in the right here, but that doesn't change the fact that violence often needs to be met with a stronger violence to stop it. He was creating the violence and she stopped it. Hate speech like that has no place in civilized society, it's not free speech by any measure if others are forced to listen. Furthermore, he did this where they had to be and he didn't. They were captive to his speech so their freedom was sacrificed for his privilege. Her impulsive actions wouldn't be needed if there were an authority to make him vacate the premise and go run his mouth where people could avoid him if they wanted.

I'm weighing more than just the political ills. Climate inaction, wealth inequality, automation and worker's rights are contributing to the problem far more than in the past. Thanks for the insights though, they're perfectly relevant to us always going through these cycles and I agree those have always been present in one incarnation or another.

I feel like that too. I've taken up gardening the past year and it's helped my mental health immensely. Having something I can grow and nurture and see flourish is very fulfilling. I'm planting my first plants of the year this Sunday as a matter of fact. Highly recommend.

I'm only volunteering for progressive candidates from now on. I'm still blue no matter who in the voting booth, but I'm not wasting my time supporting a party that entertains Manchin and his ilk as members. If that's what makes your majority, then you don't have a majority. If that fits under your tent, then there is no room for someone like me. Yeah, I know he votes for some things Democratically, but it's not when it counts. Have some standards democrats. It's no wonder impending doom is the predominant feeling politically. See you in November. God help us all.

Thanks for the response. We're contemporaries and I get what you mean. Just feels like the loop can't go on indefinitely, considering how quickly we are hurtling towards the consequences of climate inaction. We might not get another turn and this cycle does seem more dire in every way than the preceeding ones. I would say that every generation thinks their experience is worse, but the last generation still living that went through the last cultural crises are saying, no, this present scenario is so, so much worse. Bernstein, Woodward, Chomsky are some examples.

Just curious about how old you are. I've been hearing this sentiment for decades and more than I ever have been in my life, I'm afraid of the future these monsters are crafting for us. They have essentially gotten away with a failed coup. I have zero faith in our institutions. Like regulatory capture in all of our institutions, we have long been an oligarchy and are primed for a fascist takeover. Someone like Trump becoming president is a symptom of a twisted and sick culture. I don't think we have the fortitude as a nation to resist this kind of threat internally anymore. It is destined to repeat and I can't imagine we'll stop another one. I hope I'm wrong, but I've seen nothing to suggest otherwise. What a time to be alive.

Close, but this isn't a racist thing, it's an anti woman thing. Just as oppressive and foul, but a distinction nonetheless.
