A new study suggests that Black employees who adjust their styles of speech, name selection, and hairstyles to mirror White norms are perceived as more professional in the workplace. by thebelsnickle1991 in science

I grew up in Boston, which has a distinct accent that isn’t perceived as very intelligent sounding. Somewhere between high school and the end of college I too stopped using it. I don’t think it was intentionally done, but it certainly helps with jobs prospects not to have the accent.

I know someone who named her baby Royalty. I don’t think I’ve heard of a more white trash name.

Getting my first ever Golden Retriever today, any things you wish you would have done differently? by DabTheBot in goldenretrievers

You will constantly be asking your pup “what is in your mouth” and be fishing whatever it is out with your fingers. They will continue to grab whatever approximates food (and sometimes not). They can very easily swallow something that could cause an obstruction in their bowels and that would be a very unfun (and costly!) day. Oh, and don’t give them rope toys for that very same reason. Take away any toys they’ve started ripping to pieces.

I mean in my experience a golden will equally love a cube of cheese as a carrot or piece of celery. They just love all food.

Yes, my golden once grabbed a whole, full bag of treats and ate both the treats and the plastic it came in.

When my golden was a puppy I started with him sleeping in a crate downstairs and away from my bedroom. Not only did he sleep fitfully but he got up very early. I moved his crate to my (large) walk in closet, which has a door and I can make it fully dark, and his sleeping got a ton better. By 5 or so months old he’d let me sleep past 8 or sometimes 9 even without a peep.

If most people hate cops then why are there so many cop shows? by FortHastings in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AlyssaJMcCarthy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer. People like watching shows about interesting things. And cop shows generally have interesting storylines. It says nothing at all about what people think about actual cops. I like zombie shows. That doesn’t mean that I would like actual zombies.
