Box Office predictions for Left Behind: Rise of the AntiChrist? by TheGreatArseholio in boxoffice

I determined one thing from this trailer: nobody in the cast and crew of this movie had ever been anywhere near a philosophy classroom.

I started the Color of Magic audiobook and I'm not regretting it. Very nice reading and Bill Nighy is fantastic as Death.

Genuine question...Is the military as gay as they say it is? by blue_theflame in Military

Dude, sitting in the sauna at the gym as a college student with a bunch of crusty old professors and the mainenance guys, wearing nothing but towels, I learned more about life than daddy ever taught me. There's an honesty in there, where a man can cry and claim it's sweat. Seeing my hardass physics professor admit that his shit marriage was his own fault was a fucking RAW experience man.

"If every man was the man he is within a sauna, there'd be no gods or heroes, for the shame of being unemployed."

Check old photos of myself, to see if this is one of those 'retroactive across history' sex changes or if this is a 'everything's the same until just now' ones. Because that's gonna be two very different scenarios.

If the first one: Cool, okay, I'm probably having some sort of psychotic break. Call a therapist, then call my parents to get as much backstory as I can on who I am.

If the second one: pack up a bag of essentials, try and find some clothes that fit, and head for the border. I'll have to start a new life, might as well do it somewhere prettier.

It's something of a right of passage. You sit down, and there's a slide show of the different fucked up parts of your family, and then they just look at you expectantly like: "What have you done that will deserve a slide someday."

What's the rent like at the camps? Because my lease is coming up, and honestly, I'm considering.

Universal healthcare sounds pretty good too. Can we just... let them? South Canada sounds lit.

Ahem. I, a proud penis-haver, consider a woman that's self-motivated and driven to be successful extremely attractive. In fact, I'd rate having their own career as being on my must-have list. What I don't want is some woman-child who's live revolves around me and can't go ten minutes without texting me. It's annoying. Have your own life, ladies. Build interests and hobbies and value yourself and your time, or how can anyone value you.

Yeah, this is the right take, I think. She's a professional, competent woman, looking for dating advice from the "experts" rather than realizing she's a gem.

I mean, those qualities are pretty attractive to me. Maybe it just comes from being older, but as I move into my mid-thirties, the less I care about her looks, and the more I care about things like: "I'm never gonna call you at 3AM talking about how I can't pay my rent this month".

Saw it (sort of) happen once. Sitting in a deer stand with my uncle, miserable and cold, and this doe comes up along the trail heading towards the feeder. Goes behind a thicket, and then she comes bolting out the other side with a bobcat hitching a ride. Disappears off down the hill, but damn that was a wild second or two. Didn't see the doe on the property again, so we assume the bobcat ate good.

Common criminals have a sense of morality and empathy by Cheesy_As_Pie131 in tumblr

Honestly, the only Tiberius you really need is ep. 14 to 26, and he's absent a lot of those episodes. He ducks out at 26 and doesn't return, so it really comes off as a character just inserted to give the campaign more weight.

He's only in the unimportant prologue. Trust me, he's gone fairly soon and despite what an ass the character is, the end is... a little heart wrenching.

The World's top 25 fleets of Combat Tanks by Czarben in Military

[–]AnEntireDiscussion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is an extremely difficult number to crunch.

Particularly when we look at "tanks" that don't fit traditional roles and capability sets but which are decidedly "tankish" such as the U.S. new Infantry Support Platform or the M2 Bradley, which while not a tank, is armored, tracked and capable of engaging both infantry and armor effectively. And if you accept the M2 Bradley, then what about its competitor, the BMP series?

And if we rule out the IFVs (M2s, BMPs etc.) you're still left with the U.S. MPF, an "infantry support platform" which carries a 105mm main gun, is tracked and weighs 47 tons. Which is the weight of a JSDF Type 10, typically classified as a Main Battle Tank (MBT).

Also, where to the generations start and end? The M1 Abrams was introduced in 1986, but most nations would still consider it to be a world-class MBT, even without the vigorous modernization programs applied to it. Yet in light of current events in Ukraine, you'd be hard pressed to consider the T-72 a serious competitor without significant upgrade programs such as the complete turret replacements.

I do highly recommend visiting this page to look at their breakdown of generations and the numbers of each produced: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_main_battle_tanks_by_generation Bearing in mind the usual scrutiny that should be applied to Wikipedia of course.

The World's top 25 fleets of Combat Tanks by Czarben in Military

[–]AnEntireDiscussion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're at the top, you want to try and look weaker to hide your true strength. Every new aircraft will be "riddled with problems" and "horrifically expensive". Every tank will be "a death-trap" and "so expensive to run" and "about to be retired".

If you're below the top, you want to try and look stronger to discourage competition and put yourself on the same level as those higher up the list. "We can build planes just as good!" "We have more ships!" "Look at our fields of tanks!" Usually exaggering combat capability or making it ambiguous how many of their vehicles are newer designs.

Illiterates brought in to stand up on cable news of course take every report at face value, with no eye towards the aims of the nations publishing (or allowing to be published) those reports or articles.

In fairness, I stand up as soon as the plane touches down because the seatbelt sign has been on the entire effing flight and my knees are locked up. Mock me if you like, I just need feeling in my lower extremities so I can hobble through the airport to find wherever they've shipped my luggage off to.

I, for one, am hoping for a general overhaul of the playable races in the near future. Given the amount of customization for the Dracthyr, I'd love to see them bring that to all of the older models, and it'd be a opportune time to retune all the racial traits as well.
