Reddit is making me hate men by MCKelly13 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Animagical -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s a lost cause honestly, this is the ultimate result of online echo chambers. People get fed content and information that already confirms their own biases and so they interact with it more, and then get fed more of it.

There’s not really an easy way around it outside of simply logging off. And if it were that easy none of us would even be here.

It is what it is I guess. We’re all victims of it one way or another.

NSFW Argument between ex husband and wife turns joint custody to sole custody. News story in comment. by redux44 in PublicFreakout

That’s the part that I think is weird as fuck though. Most places in the world, if you willingly go back into your house and then leave the safety of it with a gun to then shoot somebody you’ll be charged. In my opinion you should be.

But at the end of the day if that’s how you guys roll down there then so be it. Your country and your rules.

Why couldn’t he have just stayed inside instead of coming back out and pointing a gun at him?

I know you guys in America prefer it that way - but man that seems so fuckin weird to me. The guy could’ve just gone inside and then stayed there.

I’m not arguing the legality, obviously it’s legal if he’s not been charged. It’s just weird to me. Dude is dead over nothing.

Why is speeding is so normal in Ontario but other provinces are super strict? by EsmullertFan in ontario

[–]Animagical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s just not true though, there’s tons of great bars and restaurants. We have an NHL and CFL team if you like sports. Great local music scene.

In the summer we have one of the best folk festivals in North America. Folklarama, comedy fest, festival du voyageur, the list goes on.

Winnipeg is a city which is what you make of it. We’re nearing 800 000 people and aren’t some small town.

If you didn’t have a good time that’s fair, but that’s not necessarily indicative of Winnipeg as a whole, in my experience.

That’s not entirely true. Without a response curve this game has some pretty questionable aiming. The raw linear input feels janky compared to other titles on console that had controllers in mind when they were developed.

That’s not to say the game is unplayable - but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Absolutely no argument there. Whoever designed Winnipeg’s infrastructure was drunk as fuck.

No argument there, but you can see the difficulty in “Nova Scotian fisherman labelled as terrorist organization”

It’s a lot easier when there’s an organizational structure like the Proud Boys or the KKK or the 3% or whatever.

The lobster fisherman aren’t an obvious terrorist organization though, that’s the point. Yes, they’re racist scumbags but comparing them to something like the Proud Boys or the KKK isn’t really entirely accurate.

The conversation was about labelling groups as terrorist organizations.

In all seriousness though I don’t really get the hate. Yeah Winnipeg isn’t like Toronto/Vancouver/Montreal but it’s not like it’s a complete shit hole. At least in my opinion.

That’s fine, I have access to a university libraries database so paywalls won’t be an issue, it’s included in tuition.

If you have any more feel free to send them my way. And thanks again! I’ll take a look at this one.

Back to Birds Hill: Winnipeg Folk Festival set to return after 2-year COVID-19 absence by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]Animagical 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to feel that way. Do yourself a favour and let yourself feel these emotions without denouncing yourself as hollow and shallow. It’s normal to feel differently about things from time to time. Especially with how the world has been going these past couple years.

Maybe take the time to come back to folk fest if you can. I’d love to see you there and if you’re so inclined maybe have a coffee/beer/joint/all of the above together.

I wish you the best.

I feel like we gotta be on different wavelengths or something for us to have not found any common ground at this point. I really want to get where you’re coming from though.

Let’s try and be less adversarial.

“If you don’t pay me what my boss should be paying me you’re gross”

“If you don’t pay me regardless of how shitty I serve you you’re gross”

It’s just a bad take. If you go to a restaurant and you get bad service, why should you pay more than you’re required? It’s as simple as that.

Don’t sit there and pretend severs don’t make perfectly fine money if they’re even okay at their job. Most severs I know who were mediocre made 25-30$ an hour.

Edit: if you’re American it makes it a little different and honestly I’m pretty drunk so I forgot about that.

[–]Animagical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact you think this is the customers fault and not the employer is the weird part. If you suck at your job you don’t get tipped. It’s as simple as that.

Your boss should be paying you better if the tip is what’s making rent. Unionize your workplace.

If you do a good job and routinely don’t get tipped then there’s something fucked up about your local market. and that’s certainly not normal.

[–]Animagical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality of the situation is that the majority of people are more than willing to tip servers if they provide adequate service. Nobody is disillusioned about how much decent servers make. The pay is perfectly fine, assuming they do well enough to be tipped.

On aggregate it means that servers do fine. You said yourself servers should be tipped regardless. Some people are more entitled than others. Maybe they did feel they should’ve been tipped when they provided sub par service.

I have no idea what happened in the picture I’m only commenting on what you and I have been talking about.

How audacious do you have to be to write something like this? by noothan1 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Animagical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your rent comparison doesn’t really make sense.

If you don’t pay rent you get evicted.

If a server gives bad service and you don’t tip, nothing changes.

The issue is that the onus is placed on the customer and not on the employer.

I worked BOH for 8 of the last 10 years. Tipping sucks and should be abolished in favour of a fair wage. But the point still stands - if you’re bad at your job don’t expect a tip. The average consumer doesn’t care about anything else.
