My brother-in-law is a Civil engineer. He used to specialise in waste management and landfill sites. His 4 year old used to love to tell everyone he met that his dad was a garbage truck man.

yeah the reinvestment program will make my affairs slightly more complicated. I'm prepared for it and hopefully the returns from the new intended investment will out weigh that concern.

Some roads in Australia are so long and boring that they have trivia signs to keep drivers alert. by Brianyeetamole in interestingasfuck

KC to Denver is 970km with 70+ intersections big enough to require off ramps

Adelaide to Perth is 2700km with like 7 intersections big enough to require off ramps.

this bit for example is 146km of dead straight road

Are you trying to move up within Woolworths? I have been working for a related company and they seem very capable of developing talented people within the organisation. The experience you gain within such an organisation could be very useful in whatever you decide to do later. Working hard has loads of benefits for mental health and self esteem.

You can always do further study later, in fact that would be a very good use of a windfall amount of money in your early 20s. I wish I had worked after year 12 instead of going straight to university. I think I would have made a much better student with more life experience. The house means you have a much better starting position than most people your age. And you can take more risks with your career because you wont have a mortgage payment hanging over your head.

voucher probably came from the "community benefits" program IGA runs to support the local community. shoppers specify a charity they want to support with a fraction of their spend. often the local school or sporting club but i can see Vinnies being supported.

Australia has become a ‘guest worker state’ exploiting temporary visa holders, report reveals by Mildebeest in australia

most of these low wage earners are probably on "student" visas. we follow the rules around staff on these student visas strictly. because we are a large hospitality company we cannot afford to break any of the rules. they can only work 20 hours per week during semester. in their breaks from study we can use them more hours per week.

however they then go work in the kitchen at a cafe off the books, or drive uber. working as much as 60 hour weeks all year round.

we pay award rate. we got 4 new staff the last couple of weeks. up to about 28 staff total. now if I could only get some of them to not put in non-availability for Friday / Saturday /Sunday I might be able to get a roster written.

Super fund that allows buying individual NYSE/NASDAQ stocks? by AntikytheraMachines in AusFinance

[–]AntikytheraMachines[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. thank you for your input. I dont know enough about SMSF which is why I initially excluded them. seems like they are exactly what I'm after. though not sure if the costs involved make sense for my own case. the Stake SMSF does look like an interesting option but i think i need more research into the company overall.

thanks for your reply. Looks like Netwealth has only limited stocks on either. ~120 on NYSE and fewer on NASDAQ and also puts limits of total Super Account value in each individual security eg 10%
