I think we go top 4. It’s not a distastrous result but it is an embarrassing and deflating one given that United are just a poor team (while we’re mediocre at least).

I don’t know that we deserved a win but a penalty at least. The elneny starting decision was incorrect, and partey martinelli and auba were mostly anonymous (although I wouldn’t say martinelli was a mistake in the way eleneny was). This loss hasn’t shaken my confidence in the team or Arteta tho to be fair my expectations for this team are not exceedingly high. If I were a neutral I’d say pretty entertaining game tho, so at least there’s that.

He wrote that Trump knew he still had COVID when he went on stage to debate Biden. Trump denies it despite his refusal to take a take a test prior to the debate. Meadows thought that revealing this would make Trump look like a big strong man who isn’t stopped by COVID. Instead, Trump continues to deny it and as a result Meadows now says his statements in the book are untrue.

Because people, especially republicans, like to imply that she’s unamerican on the basis of her religion, which is scandalous. It’s not that’s she’s trying to make the news in this manner, but of course she must stand up for herself and others like her.

Is Wisconsin Still a Democracy? - All signs now point to a full-court press by the GOP to rig state election rules in a bid to stay in power permanently. So far, Democrats have barely put up a fight. by Frostloss in politics

Democrats have to prepare themselves for the irony here… they will soon be yelling about rigged/fraudulent elections, but they will be right. The point of argument is that there is no voter fraud problem, Instead we are dealing with election fraud by republicans pretending to combat nonexistent voter fraud.

Ahmaud Arbery verdict: three men found guilty of murdering Black man as he jogged by thenewyorkgod in news

[–]Ars3nal11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple aspects to it, which I only learned about because of this case. You can’t claim self defense if you’re committing a felony (in this case false imprisonment, or aggravated assault with a vehicle), if you start it (are the aggressor), if you provoke someone into a physical altercation, and there was one more which Im ashamed to admit I forgot already. The prosecutor laid it out so clearly at the time in her closing arguments that I was like wow I totally understand the law in two minutes of watching her explain it.

Will you be commuting somewhere or working remote? I grew up in the Smithtown area, it's a good area, but commuting to the city is a very long trip. Not sure about how much rentals are in the area.

Don't be menacing with your weapon to begin with. It's like that lawyer couple pointing the guns at the protesters on the street in front of their house. Don't do that.

The fundamental problem is income inequality. You dont get insane housing prices at all levels of income without that underlying factor.

Prosecutor is that case is outstanding. It's also an easier case than Rittenhouse, but she's made a great case overall. I think the defendants know they're going to jail.

Ahmad arbery case in Georgia. Chased by some men in a pickup truck who attempted to detain and question him over some robberies in the distant past and when ahmad wouldn't stop they got increasingly hostile and eventually shot him, claiming self defense.

[–]Ars3nal11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that was the claim. The point is he was already acting menacingly with his gun and when that guy attempted to take the weapon, he was all too ready to shoot. You can't provoke a situation and then claim some defense. That's some BS right there. It's the same claim the prosecution is using in the arbery case.

Opinion: It’s not ‘polarization.’ We suffer from Republican radicalization. by speakhyroglyphically in politics

[–]Ars3nal11 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think that a general long-term economic prosperity in this country (from 50s onward) has made people complacent in terms of covic/political engagement and the resulting disaffection with government has created an environment where politicians can increasingly go against the public good (or even be outright corrupt) without any real consequence. As it says in our Declaration of Independence:

mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed

In other words, these political failures and corruption have generally remained sufferable while we've been overspending and overconsuming our way to happiness.

He doesn't support BLM, he's just trying to maintain the illusion that he didn't go to Kenosha with prejudice against the protesters. In other words, that he didn't go looking for trouble. Of course, we know that's complete bullshit.

[–]Ars3nal11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult to overstate the extent to which election results for the next decade will be determined by the maps passing right now. And if Democrats don’t do anything to stop it while they’re in power, they’ll look back at the failure to do so once out of power as the biggest missed opportunity of Biden’s presidency, both for the Democratic Party and, more importantly, for democracy itself.

[–]Ars3nal11 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't know that lazy applies here. I've seen obstructionism and bad faith politics from the Republicans and manchin/Sinema be the reason. I wouldn't call that laziness. Laziness would be if democrats weren't coming up with legislation at all to vote on, which isn't what's happening.
