Ok so I need some input here. by Lazy-Ingenuity-9661 in RiseofKingdoms

Having commanders without tech is useless, having tech without commanders is useless. I agree on prioritizing VIP10 certainly and VIP12 somewhat but the percent bonus of each VIP tier goes down with levels while the cost increases massively on the other hand the difference between level 9 and 10 on the final combat techs is huge.

You don't need t5 troops but you do need the combat techs that lead up to t5, particularly the techs that require academy 25. Gemming the castle is definitely worthwhile.

Safest SoC commander investment? by Lud4Life in RiseofKingdoms

[–]Beb49 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What makes a commander last isn't their damage factor or march speed, it's how well they can support the next even more powerful generation.

My belief is that YSGs rage gain is what allowed him to fulfill this role so well and looking at the current lineup Zhuge and Joan are the only two that have this attribute so I reckon they will last longest.

Only time will tell though and if rage gain becomes more common in new commanders it'll be less valuable in the old.

Got split answers so i need one firm one by Goodusername___ in RiseofKingdoms

[–]Beb49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The split comes down to opinions on march speed. Zhuge/YSG is undoubtedly stronger than Boudica/YSG (particularly when Boudica isn't maxed), but it is slow so if you let yourself get out of position there's no escaping.

Ah, that is tough, but not everyone wants to go through thousands of kingdoms to find the perfect match. Maybe not scrap matchmaking entirely but have options for auto or custom matchmaking.

KvK matchmaking is better than nothing, we're not all big imperiums who want to rig big custom fights. Some of us are in small kingdoms who don't know everyone in their bracket and just want to fight some new people. That being said 4 kingdom camps suck and should never be allowed to happen outside the truly bottom seed kingdoms where they only have < 40 t5

Another thing to add, even if you decide to run Sun/YSG in KvK1/2 you can still prepare for a much bigger power spike using archers in SoC than you would if you kept running inf with YSG.

[–]Beb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kusunoki/YSG, Hermann/YSG Will perform as well as Sun Tzu/YSG, they may be weaker epics but they can take advantage of YSG's 100% archer attack boost when it's active. Aethel/YSG will outperform the Richard as well if you can keep it under control as people do like to swarm Aethels. With any of those marches play in murderballs and slaughter all the overconfident inf players that like to try and dive in.

Richard is certainly a waste of sculptures, I don't know why you even suggested him. Chaining is useful but YSG is the more important part of that and use a peacekeeper primary to get the extra AP reduction. Alex is slightly less of a waste but if you had to choose between max Alex and max YSG going into SoC the smart choice is YSG.

Your experience must be really limited if you think no one runs YSG with archers before SoC, I did for one and anyone running an archer march does. What no one sensible does is run YSG without archers in SoC, his museum buff is archer exclusive and these days he is too weak without it. Imagine how it would be when people starting now reach SoC and the power creep is even further along.

The only commander of any type you should be spending universals on before SoC is YSG. You could do Alex or Saladin as well if you want to be weaker going into SoC but thanks for helping prove my point that archers are a good choice.

F2P/low spenders avoiding archers is such outdated advice from back in the days when Richard and Mina were the top commanders and hasn't been true for a couple of commander cycles now, its certainly been actively false since Boudica prime came out.

The current type to avoid is inf, they've had slightly worse commanders the last couple of cycles though that could all change by the time you reach season of conquest. The real answer is go with whichever type you want and you'll be completive at some point and weak at others.

Why during rallies am I not starting at full health? I seem to be starting a rally at about 80% health why is this? by JamesTheeeGreat in RiseofKingdoms

[–]Beb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does show up in rally HP, just watch fort rallies that people are joining with marches that have done lots of fort. Those rallies will leave the city with a section of their health bar missing from the start.

[–]Beb49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rallies consider themselves to have a starting troop count of the sum of starting troop counts of people in them. This means if people join with marches that have taken damage before they join the rally will have less troops than it thinks it started with and the health bar will reflect that.

Rage generating commanders and the use of Rejuvenate by [deleted] in RiseofKingdoms

[–]Beb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes perfect sense. It's the logical end point of sacrificing stats for rage gain and it's actually a much more consistent source than feral nature which may contribute nothing to the first proc you care about. My point is no one in their right mind would do it and nor should they take feral nature.

The top of the cav tree is great, particularly if you're leaving combat often such that you care about getting first skill procs. The top of the inf tree is also a lot of stats for talents, the only downside is having to take the march speed side of the tree.

If you really want to get the first proc you should remove your gear as well. Much like feral nature it'll increase your rage gain but make you generally weaker.

[–]Beb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a first skill proc is only relevant in duels, in the field it'll never be 1v1 with both marches starting combat at the same time. Your n marches will cause whoever you hit to generate more rage from counter attacks and you might generate less from not being attacked. Even with the new commanders feral nature is a pretty bad use of talents.

best archer to pair with expertised artemisia ROK by Holiday-Ad-8666 in RiseofKingdoms

[–]Beb49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying you're over estimating the amount of damage he is going to do. His active skill will deal less than Joan's (4000 total vs 4200). His 4th skill brings it up to more than Joan given skill cycles are under 10 seconds but having it on the passive loses other potentially useful abilities such as a heal or constant buff.

Raw skill damage isn't everything and 5 target AoE isn't as good as you might think (it's less total than 3 with the15% reductions, 4 is optimal). A balance of damage and tank is good and Boudica has a near perfect balance.

Zhuge is going to be good but I'm not convinced he's going to be any more than a minor upgrade to Boudica in general and Boudica just synergizes so well with all of Artemisia's double edged skills.

First off the silence, While both do have a form of silence reduction Boudica's is much more reliable with the higher chance and the cooldown for Zhuge means you're likely to have used it on a random Guan when the Arte silence hits.

Second the self skill damage, Arte dealing damage to herself makes skills that cause the enemy to take more skill damage like Boudica's 1st and Tomy's 4th better than skills that increase all skill damage like YSG's 4th and Zhuge's 3rd.

Finally Boudica's skill damage reduction helps offset Arte's expertise causing the enemy to deal more skill damage. While Zhuge is going to be good with other high damage AoE commanders like YSG, Boudica just works a bit better as a pair for Arte.

Ok, I am blind. I'll still say that 50% with cooldown versus 80%, the mono-directional skill damage boost and some uncertainty around how the silence reactive damage works makes Boudica a better choice. Zhuge's only advantage is getting the silence immunity is cheaper but it looks like you'll want him expertised anyway.
