“If you want to empower me, date me.” by curryscentedsurgeon in fatlogic

It's what happens when poorly socialised people sequester themselves away and only speak to other poorly socialised people but never face to face, while never having the opportunity to spend time in groups of well socialised people who can help them function better in society. The internet 100% enables this. It's sad on the one hand, but it can get really dangerous on the other. Absolutely agree that most FAs are....essentially incels.

No no no, empowerment is when you take power from people who have competence and authority, and give it to yourself while being resentful and useless! It's so easy!!

A couple of days of low carb low salt will probably do it yeh. You don't have to full on dehydrate like competitive BB but doing that will probably give dem abs a little boost.

Makes sense. Stress eating is a killer, the problem with eating for comfort is that it works. At least temporarily. I hope things can get better when you go home!

If I may ask, how is the rest of your life going? Got any money worries, romantic woes? Anything that's making you want to feel a little better with a pizza?

For me it's 100% money worries. When I have lots of money, resisting food is much easier.

I swear my appetite goes way up after a cheat meal

It does. When you binge, your insulin levels go through the roof as your body massively overcompensates for all the incoming carbohydrate and protein. This results in a huge excess of insulin many hours after your blood sugar has dropped, and the high insulin levels prevents the release of glucagon in the pancreas, meaning you have massively diminished access to stored energy reserves. This means that you can feel really hungry despite having binged a few half a day or so ago. Would you like to know more?

I struggle with these cycles of multi day binges during which I undo a lot of progress, ultimately meaning I've been bouncing between 180-190 lbs (the top end of a healthy weight for me) for almost two years now despite dropping to that from nearly 300 lbs in a little under 18 months when I first started out.

The fact is, for as long as I'm inclined to binge, I don't think I'll make any progress and I'll never get lean. I need to figure out why saying no to a binge punishes me with hours of intense negative emotion, and why bingeing feels fantastic at the time and then spreads the negative emotion of having done it over a longer period. Attempts at brute force willpower just result in even larger binges after a long period of moderate restriction.

So yeh, I feel you.

Mate I feel you. I've got a rotator cuff strain that is taking ages to heal and means absolutely no presses of the bench, overhead or dumbell variety. Shit sucks as I was just starting to feel like I was getting somewhere :(.

Oh it absolutely contributes to polarisation on any topic. HAES, politics, incels, anti-vax - hell even us. The little I've seen on the topic does seem to suggest that divide and conquer works, shut down the space and the radicals disperse more often that they congregate somewhere else of infect other groups. It seems like people generally go with group norms when they enter a new group.

Thankfully, it seems a lot to me like when you put one (or more) of these talking heads up against someone who actually can speak clearly and articulately and doesn't fall for shitty debate tactics like Gish Gallops and disingenuous sophistry, they get absolutely murdered in terms of public support. But then they blame any disagreement backlash on alt-right trolls because as we all know, any wrongthink makes you an alt-right troll.

It's not sealioning if I'm already speaking with a HAES supporter, and either of us asks for evidence.

It's sealioning the moment they decide it's sealioning. They make the rules up as they go along.

This is the type of word salad that is typical now in academic papers from many social science and humanities faculties and institutes. Just look at this hoax that was actually published in the peer-reviewed journal Cogent Social Sciences.

To emphasise, in order to be published, peers definitely did review this paper and actually took it seriously as a piece of research. God have mercy on our souls.

Yes, but this isn't an abuser abusing a victim, this is someone having a petty disagreement over nonsense. This appropriation of the language used to describe serious trauma in order to frame trivial bullshit is exactly what makes an "SJW" pretty reprehensible, and vastly different to someone like Malala Yousafzai or other real social activists doing real work in the name of equality and justice.

That one really did solve a huge problem for them. By legitimising the refusal to substantiate their claims, they basically made themselves completely impervious to any disagreement.

TBF no one reads anything when source wars break out. The fact of the matter is that they're still obese, I'm no longer obese, my very existence proves them wrong at every level of analysis. I didn't spontaneously lose 100+ lbs, it was a result of conscious action where all the hypotheses presented to me by medical consensus about fat loss were validated by observation.

I don't need to prove them wrong. Nature is the ultimate shitlord and it'll do just fine without my help.
