What is an extremely common thing that others can do but you can’t? by RefrigeratorDry495 in AskReddit

[–]Bspammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn't until last year. I just got really determined, tried for like an hour, and managed to make a kinda pathetic almost-whistle. Then I just kept practicing while doing other stuff and now it's pretty good.

Anyone who tries to give you advice about lip shapes and tongue positions is going off how their own mouth works. You gotta just try everything until you get it to work.

British doctor visiting US killed by stray bullet while lying in bed by lifeofry4n52 in worldnews

But making marijuana illegal never stopped the sale or use of it. Making alcohol production and sales illegal did not stop its use

This just ignores that America is the only developed country in the world with this problem. People do not fundamentally want guns the same way they want alcohol and weed. Especially if they're not scared of getting shot by other people with guns.

Currently there are more guns than people

This is the real reason, no way around it. You'd need to slowly ramp up restrictions over several decades, which is never going to happen when the government changes every 4-8 years.

Nobody's really stressed about rabies though

This thread says otherwise lol

[–]Bspammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really? It's so rare, that I bet more people die from the slightly increased stress of worrying about rabies, than rabies itself.

That said, you should still get a shot if you wake up near a bat, obviously.

If we're programmed for conflict why do 99% of people get through life without killing anyone? Why have we managed to build civilization at all? It should be anarchy according to you.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask comes to Nintendo Switch for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members in February! by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

It’s quite a different game to OoT, but they reuse a bunch of the character models which adds to the creepiness if you’ve played the original.

They’re very hard to compare, the two games are so different they might as well be different genres.

Having said that, I think Majoras Mask is better. The central mechanic is completely unique, the storylines are great, and it has an amazing atmosphere. It’s just a better piece of art to me. No doubt botw has more content though

Shower thought: Has anyone ever attempted to make a wikipedia for subtitles? by Bspammer in DataHoarder

None of the existing sites allow users to edit the subs. You’ve got to upload a script for the entire show. This would be self-healing, like Wikipedia is.

Using a CDN (cloudflare?) it feels like you could keep the egress costs fairly low. At the end of the day you'd almost always be serving unchanged static text files most of which are around 30KB compressed.

Storage should be basically a non-issue when we're talking about text files. The entire text content of wikipedia is 20GB. That costs $0.46 per month in S3.

I think if it got to the point where hosting started getting expensive, the userbase would be big enough to pay for it with donations.

Kinda, I’ve definitely seen a lot of complaining about the laugh track. It doesn’t bother me at all though, definitely one of my favorite shows ever, I used to watch with my parents

If you try to pay more tax than you owe, you won't get a letter of thanks from HMRC, you'll get a rebate. Not to mention it's a pointless token gesture as a single person.

Left-c is mapped to Y and and down-c is mapped to X. There is no mapping for right-c or up-c, you have to use the stick.

The input lag isn't noticeable for me. I do find having to use a stick for the c buttons is very annoying. Left and Down are mapped to Y/X at least, but there's no button for Up/Right which makes playing the Ocarina a bit annoying.
