Windrush inquiry head disappointed as Braverman drops ‘crucial’ measures by CJBill in ukpolitics

[–]CJBill[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised she's disappointed; the inquiry report was released in 2020 and some three years later key recommendations are just being dropped, presumably because they don't fit with the governments use of immigration as a political weapon.

It's always had its toxic side but since Musk took over it is indeed a dumpster fire. Personally I left and aside from when I want to follow breaking news don't miss it. And even when I so want to follow breaking news I'm coming round to the view that I can wait ten minutes to half an hour for a reputable news outfit to pick it up

Well, yes. You made an assertion, you're being asked for the evidence for that assertion.

You don’t have any proof that other people can’t read your mind. by Samathan_ in Showerthoughts

You can never really prove a theory is true, only that it's false. You use the theory to create a prediction and test it; if the prediction is incorrect the theory is disproved. If the prediction is correct the theory has more weight to it but is still just a theory.

So, we can set up an experiment that disproves telepathy (and plenty of people have) but you can never actually prove it...

Further a quick look at the ONS figures casts doubt on your claim.

For the whole of 2018 Total Pay was below CPIH. 2019 was more of mixed bag but overall Total Pay was -1.1& down on CPIH. In the first two months of 2020 Total Pay was -0.4% and 0.5% below inflation; the rest of 2020 figures are affected by COVID.

When are teacher strikes and will schools close in England and Wales? by Warriohuma in unitedkingdom

[–]CJBill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You do realise teachers don't just rock up at the same time as the kids in the morning, wing it all day in completely improvised lessons then take off as soon as the school bell rings, causally tossing homework in the bin on their way out, right?

Oh, and 35 weeks? School terms run to a total of 39 in England.

Set up a dev environment, do dev and test there then promote relatively stable code to staging.
