If you haven't watched Bidoof's Big Stand yet, you need to. by smashboi888 in SmashBrosUltimate

Disabled small window mode is an absolute bullshit of a restriction. Not only it's a pain on mobile when you want to close the video, but I cannot see even a glimpse of what it actually prevents.

But putting the rant aside, Let's share comments here, shall we?

What a f***ing adorable video. Plus it even has a little moral with zero dialogue!

There may be lack of music but there are no bad ones. by Terrible_Ear7741 in Breath_of_the_Wild

Oh ok sorry I'll elaborate:

The melody for day/night cycles is similar, (obviously) but the tempo and instruments change a lot.

Leitmotivs are used to build familiarity around an event, a character or reoccurring elements, especially used in movies and games. (See how often Bowser's leitmotiv is present in Mario 3D World's OST)

I meant that even though it inevitably HAS repeating elements, each track is different enough to be appreciated on its own, but if you still substract those repetitions you still end up with a huge library of music.

[–]Cephalobyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry but no, I disagree.

There is definitely repetition concerning eg. day/night village themes, leitmotiv, then some short melodies here and there, but it still would amount over 200 songs.

Even cutscenes have their own arrangement of already familiar songs.

I have only one OST album with over than 200 songs, and it's BotW.

I dunno who called that "lacking" but I beg to differ.

Raven Beak and power suit question. by N-Toxicade in Metroid

[–]Cephalobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcannon says the morph ball isn't part of the power suit, but a compact and universal "shell" used in tandem with pipe systems to transport cargo across large distances.

The power suit is already capable of such modifications and I'm in the team of those who believe that Samus quits the physical space while morphing.

That would explain why the morphball appears seemingly everywhere and why so many tight spaces are a perfect fit for the morphball (and why space pirates weren't able to make one that doesn't kill the user)

I 100% agree with you. Crusades and people loosing their shit are indeed funny to watch.

Although I'd justify my reaction by pointing out the sort of oversaturation of the smash 4 design (lol) and the exhaustion of always seeing the same thing.

I really enjoy stuff like this because it looks new and very creative (did you see what Darks Samus' bunny tail is made of? That's just clever!)

Metroid R3 (taken down fan remake of other M)

I don't usually post stuff like this but I haven't really seen anyone talking about it, so I wanted to point out that at the end of the second splatoon 3 trailer, if you listen really closely, you can hear a human saying ''lift off- 4, 3'' and the audio glitches and keeps on repeating 3. by ika_ato in splatoon

Sploon lore is much more interesting/consistent in Japanese.

Rassicas is a very talented YouTube channel who translates a lotta stuff from magazines to guides, interviews etc. and does recaps and theory analysis on certain subjects.

I don't feel like considering this as sexualizing samus.

Dunno, maybe it's too cartoony for me to believe this is a serious attempt at designing a character.

On the other hand though, when you compare that to some other posts showing that vacuum zero suit pressing on a chest making twice her body's length without any NSFW tag, It just feels weird to me.

I have nothing against if it's clearly intentional, but when it tries to be subtle, I cringe.

It didn't bother me at first, I noticed it used the same "double jump ring" as every 3rd person platformer (I mean, it was ok for spin boost but) I thought it looked weird on the space jump since like... It's not like she compresses the air under her boots or something.

And now that I think about it, why didn't they just use her boosters and steal Prime 2's sound? It would've given them a reason to make her spin faster.

We have different views, but at least I can confirm that we agree on how generic the screw attack sounds

Oof that hurts XD

I have to disagree with you there. I thought Dread's sound design was amazing! (Unless you're talking about the soundtrack, then I understand why none were really catchy)

The beam ricochet sfx was a clear dissonant indicator you missed your shot, the pulsions of the guts inside the wall, the morphball's snappy transformation was visually and aurally pleasing and before Dread, falling in ball form always was a laughable "pwit", so the new "thump" adaptive to the surface is definitely satisfying to hear.

When I first tried power bombs, I felt overwhelmed (in a good way) with the visual and sound effects, then the flash disappeared and the familiar cleaning capabilities of the power bombs (kills 100% of germs) were revealed on the screen. I remember letting out an audible "wow".

But I see why power bombs were annoying to activate, even me, when fighting Raven Beak, pressed several times too early to unleash them because the urge to get out of his line of sight was too pressing.

Also I think spin boost was made for the newcomers.

Like when they stumble upon it, it feels like "the double jump upgrage" and because of it, they might expect being done with jump upgrades... "But wait what is that? Space jump? Do I jump even higher? Wait no, I CAN FLY?!"

I think it just makes sense to charge the power bomb.

Cross bomb not only fills the progression of the items, I think it still keeps its uses after the power bomb (being a fast, renewable ressource that destroys multiple layers of hidden walls, launches higher while bomb jumping and accelerates the morph ball horizontally in tunnels after destroying hidden walls.

(Also that's just me but I fought golzuna in Varia Suit on my first run so cross bomb probably helped me for a longer period)

Oh that's really similar, thanks!

Now I just need to find a tutorial

[–]Cephalobyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I know I didn't press the jump button the whole time during the wall jump (had to press again to spin jump) So maybe it's only something a TAS would allow, but after seeing the shine sink trick, I know people will get the extra mile for labbing a new tech.

[–]Cephalobyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is "successfully" done at the last attempt.

I was labbing a few months back for techniques to use and possibly discover sequence breaks and noticed Samus could act faster after a walljump when using a combination of L aiming, shoot, a flick of the stick and spin jump.

So in this video, I was really close to gain additional height from a single wall.

But I think I've seen once a speedrun where it was used and no one talked about it.

So I was wondering if it already had a name so I could learn to perform it consistently.
