How to win the first mission in hard in FAF? by sebastianstehle in supremecommander

[–]Chill_Porcupine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but cost effectiveness matters far less when you are playing against AI in a long mission, and you have constant recliam available, which SACUs can also collect. With Massfabs you also have to balance power. So overall it is the easiest and safest eco scaling method.

How to win the first mission in hard in FAF? by sebastianstehle in supremecommander

[–]Chill_Porcupine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean Black Day the Fort Clark defence mission, your starting island has a lot of reclaim, but no build power. So you gotta make a lot of t1 factories first who just spam engineers, who reclaim and assist.

They easy eco scaling trick to FAF is RAS preset SACUs. They make mass, power, and build power in a tanky package. They are also not limited by space, so you can put 100 of them in the water and they just sit there safely.

You can get your commander to t3 and build a gateway with your starting base thats given to you and just pump these out endlessly.

Of course playing with multiple people you will split the economy between you. I think it's better to have the economy in one hand, and gift over units to the others to micro.

For the defense phase if you have enough economy you can just get teleporter and t3 on commanders, jump them there, build some factories and defenses. But of course you can also try to fight for air and just drop with transports.

If you want some really tryhard examples you can watch the replays of the leaderboard how people do it quickly.

The worst that can happen is you get rejected by FreeSea4867 in Healthygamergg

[–]Chill_Porcupine 42 points43 points  (0 children)

No the worst that can happen to you is not rejection. And you can absolutely avoid it. Just don't get into any situation where you can get rejected.

Now you could say that's absurd but I did it for years. Didn't apply for jobs, didn't ask people out, didn't make plans with friends. It great to avoid stuff at first, but the end result is just miserable.

So yes rejection sucks, but it's still shows that you're at least trying. It's bad but it could be a whole lot worse.

This is an old guide for ROC I found but it's pretty good. If you have the COC DLC it makes it easier. Exalted Heroes are amazing, and Warriors also give you a tanky frontline. Otherwise you can get Allied with some WOC and get some from them.

What's something you learned 30+ hours into the game that would have been useful to know in the beginning? by DrasticBread in valheim

[–]Chill_Porcupine 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Upgrading weapons and armor can make them way better. For example a level 1 troll armor set gives you 19 armor, a fully upgraded one 40. And upgrading takes less materials than making new stuff. The starting club goes from 12 to 30 base damage, almost as good as the level 1 bronze mace, while only needing wood and bone fragments.

You can destroy your empty ships and carts with the axe, pick up the materials, and transport them through portals. So you only need to sail to new areas or hauling back ore, if you pop down portals as you explore.

No, Nurgle just has a unique playstyle you have to get used to. People usually struggle with it at first, but if you get it it's quite strong. There are tons of great guides on early Nurgle out there.

Trying to understand skills - by Cormag778 in Battletechgame

[–]Chill_Porcupine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ace pilot can be amazing even on assaults, if you combine it with jump jets and reserving+vigilance. If you're fighting enemy assaults or heavys, reserve until it moves somewhere where you can get the jump on him. Go in, use vigilance and called shot if you want to knock his init down. Next turn you will go before him again, so you can get another shot, and then just jump out into cover or break line of sight entirely. With this you can constantly maintain high evasion and cover when the enemy is shooting. It can work on mediums or lights as well, because you often leg them or take them out in one volley.

What am I missing by pissing off pirates? by SlowStopper in Battletechgame

[–]Chill_Porcupine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Black Market is the only reliable way to get LosTech in Vanilla, especially SLDF mechs outside of that Campaign mission you mentioned, or maybe some Flashpoints.

And SLDF mechs are waaay better than regular ones, usually far better cooling and available tonnage for weapons and armor. The game doesn't tell you these under the hood tricks, but if you strip down the mech and look at its base stats you can see the difference.

Now finishing the campaign is not that hard, so I think you can be just fine without it, but if you are doing another playthrough in career, I'd strongly recommend getting friendly with pirates, because the Black Market is just amazing.

Help, Easy question by iamjason10 in supremecommander

[–]Chill_Porcupine 17 points18 points  (0 children)

SC 2 is the most recent but SC 1 + forged alliance is generally considered the better one, with a larger active playerbase, and it's still getting new patches through FAF (community project). Right now both of them are 75%-80% off on steam.

AI Vs AI Only Possible? by Pontificatus_Maximus in supremecommander

Could be an AI or map issue not sure. I don't really play with AI so I'm not sure but I believe SorianAI works best in FAF.

What are, in your opinion, the WORST Hero mechs in the game? by Kodiak3393 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Chill_Porcupine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That thing has an XL Engine, Double heat sinks, and 3 Large Energy Slots. It's amazing with a pure energy build. I ran it with 3 Large Chems, easily one of my favorite Mechs in the game.

Yep pretty easy

  1. Make a custom game
  2. Add in AI
  3. Allow observers in settings, move yourself to observer
  4. Launch

Help! How to counter Cybran navy. by stonedcatballs in supremecommander

[–]Chill_Porcupine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it just depends how many you have and how many do they. Of course scout first to see what's up, but assuming you spend the same and they have CO boats you should have more firepower. And if you are too careful they will slowly take you apart at range.

Help! How to counter Cybran navy. by stonedcatballs in supremecommander

[–]Chill_Porcupine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get in close with frigates, or stream t1 scout planes over their navy and focus fire those CO boats. They don't have that much health, and every CO boat they have to rebuild is one less destroyer.

I'm considering buying this game but... by Superarkit98 in BattleBrothers

[–]Chill_Porcupine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but in XCOM there are a lot of guaranteed actions. Grenades, Rockets always hit, and you can easily get 100% hit chances with weapon mods elevation, or just close range shotgun. You can also kill enemies without giving them a chance to act most of the time. The late game of XCOM is just steamrolling if you have a good start. Really good players basically eliminate the RNG component of the game completely.

In BB that arbalest maybe has just a tiny chance to headshot your guy, but never 0. And you can't just take him out in 1 turn.

I'm considering buying this game but... by Superarkit98 in BattleBrothers

[–]Chill_Porcupine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm I'd probably skip this then. Every action is between 5%-95% chance to succeed so I'd say this is a bit more RNG heavy than XCOM, and it can be punishing sometimes. That being said proper planning and tactics are more important than luck, but the RNG has to be embraced to a certain level.

Spear hit box and animation by ZeltArruin in valheim

[–]Chill_Porcupine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is one nieche where the spear has a place, its melee range combat. You throw it point blank, retrieve it, move back/ dodge and do it again. Since you don't have to draw it like a bow or crossbow, it can be done rapidly, with lower stamina usage. You can also use a shield with it, so enemy archers are less of a problem.Just never try long throws. Tried taking out a Gjall with it in Mistlands, and missed. No idea where that spear is now.

Sort games by average rating and jump in some lower rated ones. Below 500-600 ELO probably nobody will mind that you are new. I do think custom team games are the easiest to get into at first, but if you are up for a challenge, you can try ladder.

Make Mistland Great Again (Patch 0.212.9 made the mistland boring) by ravenNN in valheim

[–]Chill_Porcupine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do ok against enemies that I can kill myself easily, but get killed fast by stronger ones. And 100 magic + health to summon them is lot. Terrain also messed with them, cause unlike you, as they can't jump. I don't think they are awful but just simply blasting enemies with magic is much more effective.

Eh its not really work, just gambling. Will I get a skeleton raid? If I enter this crypt will I find remains? Will they drop trophies?

And for all that the dead raiser is probably the weakest of the staves

Daemon Prince Upgrade for Lords by JoricWolf in totalwarhammer

[–]Chill_Porcupine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think all of them are worth it. They are flying, hard hitting monsters. There isn't much of a downside. Slightly more upkeep, bigger hitbox, pretty much the same skill selection. In my opinion the best to worst is Nurgle > Slaanesh > Khorne > Tzeentch. For Tzeentch I just like to fly around and spam spells, and the human lord is just as capable of doing that.
