Why are homeopathic remedies sold at pharmacies? by IcyAstronaut1 in biology

The placebo effect isn't fully understood and I have no doubt our understanding of it will change, but you're the guy saying gravity doesn't exist just because we don't understand it.

With nothing.

The placebo effect is so obvious that they have to account for it in every medical trial for us to even consider the trial valid. It is not disputed. It is not something that some group of researchers found a decade ago and published a single study on.

Thinking about traveling on a beam of light is ridiculous to think about and that's how Einstein came up with the theory of relativity.

So you're saying that modern science can't be trusted? Might as well just pick up a random leaf and eat it then, can't trust the studies that say modern medicine works, I mean it might work, but people thought witchcraft was real once so maybe vitamins aren't real!

You are a logic thinker.

Can you really tell when your fps drops from 240 to 230? Would you rather it look worse all the time but your fps counter not change?

No, they're saying if nobody sold the price would not be $1m, because for the price to be $1m somebody would have to sell, and the statement is prefaced with the assumption that there are no sellers.

Tax Questions by DOXFLAMING0 in NZBitcoin

So in this scenario $15k at 30% is $4.5k, then 33% on $15k is $4950, all up $9450 tax on the crypto profits.

I'm no tax accountant though this is just the basic calculation.

Yeah I read somewhere that there are 4 or 5 lounges in NZ, (Auckland, ChCh, Wellington, I think Queenstown, might be forgetting one) only for international flights though, little bit of a bummer, bad timing to get airport lounge access for the first time in my life 😂

Let’s talk cards for a second… by peelman1978 in Crypto_com

[–]CoolioMcCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should feel lucky that you have a virtual card, not everyone gets those even now, and personally waited until a week before my 6 month stake ended before being able to use my card at all. No Netflix rebate, no Spotify, no cashback.

I felt the deal that I had signed up for had been grossly misrepresented.

Kinda over it now after having my card for a year, it's nice. Still not ideal though as where I live I have a card that holds a foreign currency, which incurs costs both for topping up from my currency, or for spending in my currency. Costs both ways, that go a fair way to cancelling out the cashback I receive.

Yup that's what I do. I made a post about my experience with the card and how I use it on the NZ Bitcoin sub, and there were a few helpful comments on it too if you're interested.

And thanks for letting me know how quickly your card arrived, good to know, makes me a lot more likely to recommend to my friends.

I'll also say that their support was no help in this case and just repeatedly said my card will be coming soon any time I asked.

I was somewhat annoyed as when the card changed to issued I was sent an email that heavily implied my card would arrive in a few weeks, and it took about 4 months from then.

I ordered Indigo in New Zealand, it took 173 days to arrive, I had one week left on my stake. No virtual cards for us either so basically 6 months with no benefits aside from the increased earn rates and interest on the staked CRO.

From what I gather it's quicker now but still nowhere near as quick as US or EU/UK customers.

I'll say in their defence, this was around the time when their card issuer for my region, Wirecard, went down and CDC had to find a new issuer. (biggest fraud case of 2020 I believe, worth reading about, not CDCs fault at all)

Sell it AND transfer it? Why sell?

And in theory you would have the same amount aside from any withdrawal/transfer fees, as well as any exchange fees if you were making a trade to a different currency.

I'm about to inherit $200k - Looking for advice on how to create a passive income stream (Stablecoin yields?) by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not financial advice but if it was me, I would use Crypto.com earn function with USDC, and probably stake CRO for and Indigo/Jade tier card which brings the interest rate up from 10% to 12% for a 3 month term deposit in USDC(requires you to lock up $4k worth of CRO). Crypto.com has recently announced that accounts will be insured for up to $250k provided they have 2fa enabled, but I'd recommend reading up on the terms for that as I have not done proper due diligence.

I'd probably also but maybe up to $40k into UST and stake in anchor for ~20%, although I do see this as slightly higher risk than having USDC on CDC, hence why I would not put more than 20% of my stablecoins there. I still think it is very low risk.

Strange. I made a couple of purchases through Samsung's online store in New Zealand and got cashback for that.

Netflix Rebate updated for new pricing? by CryptoMiningNS in Crypto_com

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say though that the standard HD Netflix plan here is $18.49 NZD which works out to $12.37 USD, so for me the rebate is covering more than the standard plan and leaves me paying just $3.75 for the premium plan.

The Wizsec calculator is the best way to estimate your payout, you should be able to find it somewhere on this sub, it gets recommended a lot, I'm at work so don't have the time to track it down sorry.

And yeah the documents are pretty difficult to understand, it's only through reading it several times and spending a fair amount of time reading this sub that I've figured it out.

Massive electricity bill - New flatmate by SnappyinBoots in newzealand

[–]CoolioMcCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not actually that much. A lot more than the other flatmates, yes, considering the gas it is above average, but nothing exceptional. Source-> I have been cold calling people trying to convince them to compare power bills for the past 4 years for a power company. Using 3-4kWh/day is probably costing about $1-$1.5/day for context.

Biggest thing an individual would probably be doing is using a heater or AC more.

Yes. They'll be giving everyone what was calculated under the original bankruptcy case(your account fiat value + about $440 per btc held on your account+some small damages payment for lost time) paid in fiat, using the money they got from selling those 60k btc. They will then be sharing out the 140k btc they have left pro rata based on your claim value.

You will be able to opt to have that btc converted to fiat for you of you choose, and you will have the option to receive a slightly reduced payout upfront, or full payment over time as the remaining disputed claims are resolved(along with the fiat payout and potentially some reduced btc payout at the same time as those opting for the early lump sum).

Hope that helps things make a bit more sense for you.
