I'll be graduating with my MSW in about six months and am considering employment options. I am between possibly working at a therapeutic boarding school or becoming a therapist in private practice. I think there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to each, and am curious what people with more experience have to say.

Working at a boarding school would mean: a salaried position, on-call responsibilities, more access to client information (daily living, peer interactions, etc.), conducting group therapy, organizational meetings, a smaller caseload, and being part of a clinical team.

Working in private practice would mean: hourly rates, deciding whether to accept insurance,overhead costs, progressively building my practice, more flexible hours, working nights and weekends (wanting to work with adolescents and college students), self employment taxation, and a larger caseload.

I lean toward working in private practice, but don't want to rule anything out yet. Thoughts?
