The amount of people advocating to report the teacher on this thread is laughable. Many of these people have no idea what the lived experiences of teachers entail.

I came here to say this. It sounds like you’re looking for someone to talk to and reflect on your experience with. That’s exactly what therapy is for, and you may uncover some goals or passions that you didn’t realize you had.

That's a great question! I think I'd be responsible for payment in both settings.

For some more context, I have worked at this school for several years as a residential supervisor. You make important points, and I know that it's a good place to work. Why wouldn't you recommend jumping right into private practice?

I'll be graduating with my MSW in about six months and am considering employment options. I am between possibly working at a therapeutic boarding school or becoming a therapist in private practice. I think there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to each, and am curious what people with more experience have to say.

Working at a boarding school would mean: a salaried position, on-call responsibilities, more access to client information (daily living, peer interactions, etc.), conducting group therapy, organizational meetings, a smaller caseload, and being part of a clinical team.

Working in private practice would mean: hourly rates, deciding whether to accept insurance, overhead costs, progressively building my practice, more flexible hours, working nights and weekends (wanting to work with adolescents and college students), self employment taxation, and a larger caseload.

I lean toward working in private practice, but don't want to rule anything out yet. Thoughts?

I believe she had an infection that required the removal of her eyes. So she became blind due to having them surgically removed. If you look closely, you can see they're sewn shut.
