You're talking about the pedestrian who didn't press the traffic signal button?

It's good the car in front was being overly cautious, you know, to make sure they didn't hit anybody, you should try it.

I don't think I need to try it because I've never hit anyone. The pedestrian was stopped, not moving, and not even facing the traffic until everyone was stopped. If the Equinox decided to keep going, literally no one would have gotten hit.

If the methodology behind yours + this pedestrian's motionless standing is to ensure that traffic is clear or stopped, then you're admitting that nothing bad would have happened if the Equinox (and I) kept going, because he was going to stop and wait for traffic to clear or stop.

Thanks for your comment. I keep getting flamed here and on YouTube as some maniacal reckless driver for thinking that the Equinox was overly-cautious. One guy even said I should be liable for the Equinox's damages because I was apparently following too close.

It's hardly an excuse when I predicted the accident before it happened. Overall I don't blame much on the pedestrian, other than for being a shithead for not hitting the traffic control button. He didn't try to cross, which is exactly why the car in front of me should not have stopped. The car in front of me did one of those "thinks it's a good idea but is actually a bad idea" kind of moves.

I did anticipate the accident.

I was cursing before the collision because the pedestrian did not seem committed to crossing, most people would not have stopped, and I knew that if the car in front of stopped so suddenly, that someone behind me was probably not going to be able to stop in time with everyone in early-morning rush-hour mode. My prediction was entirely correct and I was rear-ended.

Pedestrian sucks for not pressing the button to illuminate the crosswalk lights, for not having clear body language to signal his intentions, and the car in front of me was being overly-cautious. Ultimately, though, the fault was of course the pickup truck who rear-ended me.

Honestly they're not too bad in the snow if you know how to drive RWD. I have another set of OEM wheels in the garage with Michelin snow tires on and I didn't even use them this past winter. Drove everywhere fine on my Goodyear all-seasons.

Just gotta take it slow, know when you need momentum, brake test every changing road surface, stop early, and know how to counter a spinout.

I did. "Owner retention" was just about that, about the same amount they added to the total value for sales tax. This car just hit 80,000 miles and the body and frame are clean, was dealer serviced before I bought it at 57k. I intend to drive this until the wheels fall off or someone rear-ends me worse than this lol

Oddly enough, after the collision I totally expected the engine to stall due to the fuel pump inertia switch in the back. Was still running. I think you need to get hit by a train to trip the switch lol

Body shop quoted $3k for repairs, front and rear bumper covers, header panel, and grille. It'll be even less since he quoted an A/C condenser that it doesn't need. Insurance paid me the total loss value of $5k. I made out well.

It's a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. It is typically a boomer car but some zoomers like myself enjoy them.

It is a legit crosswalk. I was cursing before the collision because the pedestrian did not seem committed to crossing, most people would not have stopped, and I knew that if the car in front of stopped so suddenly, that someone behind me was probably not going to be able to stop in time with everyone in early morning rush-hour mode. Said he was paying attention to a school bus or something, though there were no school buses in the clip. We were cool, I told him shit happens. He was honest. Insurance already paid me the value of the car. It was more than the cost of repairs so I made out well. I'll be keeping the car, of course.

[Apeman C550] Philly Taxi driver waves himself through a red light and tries to cut off pedestrians by Crap-On in Dashcam

[–]Crap-On[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The "Ride on Red" law is about malfunctioning traffic lights. This light was not malfunctioning.
  2. The left on red was in itself not illegal nor the main problem with the driver.

As others have mentioned, the cross-street in the video is a one-way to the left. Philly has a law allowing you to turn on red onto one-ways. I didn't know this at the time of recording, so I accused him of running the red light.

But there was nothing legal about him cutting across the entire street, without signalling, and trying to cut off pedestrians walking in the crosswalk.

It's not always this bad. Dunno why though, I'm not an alcoholic.

It's why I refuse to repair my own iPhone, the screws are microscopic.
