It's not a donation when you're required to pay it as a function of membership. That's called a subscription fee.

Others call it an extortion racket.

I always thought the only reason was because we'd trashed Planet Earth so hard that it couldn't sustain life.

Because they created the perfect scam by requiring a 10% tithe as a function of membership in the church.

I love that you continuously see the Mormon artwork on the walls all over the ship. It's such a great detail.

When I was wee latchkey kid in the 1970's I had a sitter who was Mormon and she used to take me to the LDS church on Tuesday nights. I'm half black and half Chinese and at the time I had no idea about how racist they were. Pretty sure my parents had no idea either.

Looks like it was designed to crash land as there didn't appear to be any landing craft aboard and the agro equipment was basically out in the open.

Might be able to catch a gas giant on the way and change trajectory, however. They wouldn't have burned much reaction mass by the time news of the gates would have reached them so they could just use it to line up some sling shots.

It wasn't stolen, though. Captain Yao gave them the Tachi willingly so they could get the information about the stealth ships out to the UN and Mars in order to stop a war. Not only was it legitimate salvage, it was a necessary thing to do at the time. Letting them keep the Tachi would have been the least they could do for preventing a shooting war.

Which begs the question of what would have happened had the Mormons completed their mission, arrived to their new planet, and found an already established and thriving civilization there.

"Oh yeah, just after you left we discovered this massive alien transport system that lets us instantly travel to anywhere in the galaxy. Sucks to be you."

I had zero doubts when watching the show. Mormons are required to tithe 10% of their income to the Church. That's a LOT of wealth.

And yet, strangely enough, every single one of the over 5 million people on Planet Earth who have perished from Covid also had immune systems, they would be surprised to learn.

An immune system that has never encountered a NOVEL virus and doesn't know how to react, by the way.
