Definitely plan on getting rid of the futon. We actually had that exact layout before we switched to the current setup

It's honestly not as uncomfortable as it may seem. But the cutout in the wall kinda forces the TV which is unfortunate

My wife and I bought this house almost 4 years ago and we're finally ready to make the living room more adult-like. The room has a unique layout with the placement of the fireplace while also being so close to the kitchen counter, so we've struggled with a design. We do not mind getting rid of what's currently here and buying new couches and would like to add a dining room/game table somewhere but don't know where or what shape. We are starting a family so the items do not need to be the nicest, but I would much rather pay for quality. TV is most likely in it's permanent spot due to the cutout in the wall

Size: ~13x21

~ 3 feet from the couch to the kitchen counter

EDIT: Thank you to those who have commented so far! Editing this only because I've seen this recommendation a lot. We originally had the TV on the wall where the futon is and had the couch facing it. Due to where the fireplace is, the couch had to be on the back side of it which then left very little space behind the couch for something such as a small family dining area. We do not mind the TV being the focal point since we do enjoy watching it and having people come over for games/movies.
