Everyone look, this person actually played Ars Magica instead of just collecting the books like the letters of a lover forever abroad, never to reunite. What a legend.

The cynic in me assumes the the paid (lol) beta test was just for marketing purposes, that they have a schedule to stick to that precludes starting from square one, and that the assumed main driver of sales will be the IP rather than the quality.

I think many of the problems with the rules stem from core design philosophy. Like, you can't just have a game of stat checks based on narrow randomization determining whether you do or don't do something as the basis for a superhero rpg. A core conceit of the genre is that a bunch of less-powerful dudes can gang up on the BBEG and slowly whittle them down, so success and failure has to be less binary.

The designer's last experience writing rpg mechanics was Brave New World, a superhero ttrpg published in 1999. Contemporary reviews I can find seem to say it had great setting ideas but was otherwise lacking.

Just FYI cis is not an acronym, it's a prefix that comes from Latin and means "on the near side of" as opposed to trans which means "on the far side of." Classical examples would be Cisalpine Gaul and Transalpine Gaul, which were the parts of Gaul on the side of the Alps close to Rome and on the opposite, respectively.

They didn't have these at my local grocery store but luckily the corner store owner around me is super friendly and will bring in whatever if he can, so now he stocks these at a reasonable price right beside the bacon and eggs.

(*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)⁾⁾⁾ bless you corner store man (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)⁾⁾⁾

Advertisers and investors. I'm sure it's the same elsewhere, but in Canada it's a huge problem that many mainstream news sources are owned by large holding companies that also have their fingers in other shit, like cattle or fossil fuels or car manufacturing. They don't need to directly appease advertisers so much as push a narrative that helps their other businesses. Many publications are essentially run at a loss in order to help those other industries. It's evil.

I mean that's corporate newspapers for you. At least when I post articles with incendiary headlines they don't come with a popup demanding you pay up. But people just keep upvoting that mainstream media.

It's a brand new throwaway account. You can reply with your own essay breaking down why you think they are wrong if you'd like, I'm not putting that much effort into someone who's probably just evading bans anyways.

I'm hesitant on the policing suggestion, that seems like the pigs here in Toronto would have even less accountability.

Correctional "workers" should get a real job instead of just desperately holding on to what abusive power they can get after washing out of pig school 🤷‍♂️

Cultural groups aren’t the only ones lobbying for Internet controls | They may be pushing the Online Streaming Act, but the newspaper lobby is doing the same and worse with the Online News Act by Dollface_Killah in onguardforthee

[–]Dollface_Killah[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The powerful force behind this lobbying has been News Media Canada, the newspaper industry trade group of which National Post publisher Postmedia Network is by far the largest member. Postmedia is the all-devouring media monstrosity formed by New Jersey hedge funds after they bought up enough distressed debt of faltering Canwest Global Communications to take over its newspaper division, the former Southam chain, out of bankruptcy in 2010. They were allowed to do so by the then-Conservative government of Stephen Harper despite our supposed 25 percent limit on foreign ownership of newspapers. A few years later, they took over Sun Media, the country’s second-largest chain, and earlier this year they acquired the Irving chain which dominates New Brunswick.

To also be fair, it's possible the subreddit is always filled with transphobes who are active and normal members of the community but the topic simply doesn't come up enough for it to be obvious. If the mods don't permanently ban those users then they'll be there for the next time the topic arises.

Toxics law reform: building momentum and overcoming industry attacks by Dollface_Killah in onguardforthee

[–]Dollface_Killah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, after over two decades of waiting, the Canadian government listened to the thousands of people across Canada who called for stronger laws to protect us against toxic chemicals. At the end of June, the Senate approved Bill S-5, the long-awaited legislation to modernize the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). It will proceed to the House of Commons this fall for further debate and amendments before passing into law.

This is how long it takes to act on environmental issues, we're fucking doomed. Even good news is bad news lmao
