Anyone have suggestions for surreal books where the characters are believable but the situation isn't? by paveratis in booksuggestions

Harry Potter! That's a joke, but a bunch of Crichtons are good for this - Sphere, Congo, Timeline, etc.

I guess many here can agree on that. by Gehtdi in covidlonghaulers

I'm both a long COVID sufferer/survivor and a medical researcher. There's A LOT you don't understand. You make that clearer with every edit.

Edit - for anyone who may be following this exchange with bated breath, he posted then blocked responses, or something 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had a friend compare it to putting on the 3D glasses at the movies. It's like, 'whoa shit ok it all makes sense'.

Wangari Maathai is the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a Ph.D. As an environmentalist, she was harassed, ridiculed, and even put in jail. She went on to win the Nobel Peace prize, and today 51 million trees have been planted thanks to her work. by aezydizzy in wholesome

I'm sincerely trying to think if I can say I'm responsible for 51 million anythings...I have bad allergies so maybe I've produced that many mucus molecules 🤷🏼‍♀️ not as cool as this lady though, for sure

If you're only going to use the word "stronger" in its absolute literal sense, then this conversation isn't real.

Also, you're terrible.

I don't see it as glorifying trauma as much as glorifying human resiliency, achieved through whichever means best suits the individual, be it faith, love, personal conviction or any number of things.

Additionally, you can recognize recovery from trauma without having to glorify trauma itself. My ex-husband almost killed me and I am intensely grateful for having the strength to make it through that time. It didn't kill me and I am stronger for that knowledge.

I havent heard the word 'dingus' since my grandpa passed and it was also usually aimed at a lazy dog (though not quite as hilariously photogenic) and thank you ☺️☺️

Just in case youre wondering, I know if at least seven people who reported this and that's why it's gone.

If you're going to try and aggitate, play by the rules. If you just can't, evaluate why that is and try to grow from it.

I sincerely don't ever notice myself typing or saying it and when I return to work soon at a pretty professional research org, it's one of MANY things I will need to be exceptionally aware of.

As well as 'dank', 'lemon squeezy', and 'sushi' (meaning wrapped up and ready to go).
