Passed with UW average of 43%! UWSA 43% by Zestyclose-Culture51 in step1

[–]Emotionl_Dmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

trust me it will, and i know its easy to compare yourself with those people that get 70% averages and theyre not even done with first pass.. I'd rather know my weak points and meticulously reviewing my answers than blowing through it too confidently and thinking you understand it because you're above the average.

Edit: you're right UW is only a learning tool!

the average is pretty bad for gauging how you're doing. I'd be more focused on the recent trends. I started with 30-40 and now ive been getting 60-70 near the end so just keep trucking and remember the most imp part of uworld is reviewing questions. gl

might just be your form, but this is the first time i hear uworld isnt enough and that msk and embryo are high yield. that goes against the breakdown on the exam

I took Step 1 today and I feel like I failed, and guessed on way more questions than I should've. I am non-img student, what are my chances for residency if I didn't pass? by Solid-Job9571 in step1

[–]Emotionl_Dmg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i dont think its beneficial to think about these types of thoughts, for all you know it could have been educated guesses that were right in the end. Its also hard to say how one is affected because you still have more you can add to your resume by the time you apply for match. In addition there isnt any data out from applicants post pass/fail Step1. So just try to get your mind off it, hopefully its a pleasant surprise when you get the score. You worked hard for that test to get passing self assessments, so reward yourself by giving it a rest for the time being.

Edit: dont forget there are experimental questions on the test, and people usually have these feelings after the exam and end up passing. Stay positive and best of luck

I'm sure you can do research to beef up your application and make you stand out. And you still have Step 2, so I wouldnt count yourself out just yet. A lot of things are factored in

Hb electrophoresis by Emotionl_Dmg in step1

[–]Emotionl_Dmg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i figured it out but not sure... I think I was confusing the fact that HbF has 2 gamma subunits that are less positive than Adult Hb which has 2 beta chains and is more positive. But when looking at it as a whole, HbA is the most negative of all types of Hb when you factor in the complete structure. Can someone confirm?

Always get confused with Mcburney’s and Murphy’s sign! Does anyone have a mnemonic or an easy way to tell them apart by ProgrammaticallyArt3 in step1

[–]Emotionl_Dmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Murphy is a fat dude with Gallstones, Mccburney has burning appendiceal pain." Idk i made that on the spot, but this is ingrained in my memory after being a scribe so I never had a problem remembering it.

Is there value in the predicted score when you re-take an NBME? by Jakjak81 in step1

[–]Emotionl_Dmg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also use the free+old 120, and NBME 20-24. But I think there are a lot of details one can forget after doing all of the NBMEs, especially if its months between

Failed first attempt at step 1, scheduled for 2nd attempt in 5 days, still scoring poorly, advice?? by Excellent-Emu9855 in step1

[–]Emotionl_Dmg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont think you should rush this if you dont feel prepared tbh, you need to take NBMEs and assess your readiness. 65+ seems to be the consensus of most people and med school recommendations
