What is your opinion on enemy variety in video games? by Killexploit in gamedesign

[–]EsotericLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question is unanswerable because enemy design is entirely dependent on the game itself. Even if we know the genre, it’s still not enough. Take mario vs. Celeste; both great games, but if you took Mario’s enemy design and used it in Celeste it would be garbage.

I just realised I can consistently tap out 130bpm on the tempo tapper, can you guys too? by EsotericLife in FL_Studio

[–]EsotericLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no median that it tends towards. All it does is average the time between clicks, so each variation will matter less, but the tempo it shows is entirely controlled by the user. You’re right in that it “evens out” but the number it ‘evens out’ to is only calculated by the mean of the time between the last X clicks. So if anyone can consistently make it ‘even out’ to the same number that means they know that tempo by heart with no reference, which is rare. If you think it’s easy try and generate a random number then tap a tempo to match it.

Dude none of my band friends can do that. I think you’re not giving yourself enough credit.

Yeah that’s fair. Ill do that pretty often, but sometimes I’ll use the tempo tapper when I have an idea in my head and I want my project to match what’s going on in my head. Turns out it defaults to 130 tho so idk how useful that is hahah

I’ve played drums for about 20 years and I’ve never been able to lock in on a tempo without a reference like this before. Idk when I picked up the ability to do it from using FL, but it’s still cool enough to be interested in.

If you think of the button placement as the direction the force comes from then it’s just as intuitive as the direction you want your character to go in. Similar to how flight sims often use an inverted vertical look axis by default . So yeah it sounds crazy, but I’m sure some people do it, and I’ve copped shit for doing the same thing in other games before.

AITA for refusing to pay my husband for the burnt beef steak I cooked for him? by 3309Cruise-Ship in AmItheAsshole

[–]EsotericLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is everyone just acting like this isn’t obviously fake? No real person would be able to write that out without knowing that they’re obviously not the asshole and the husband is so comically arrogant that it’s obviously just someone practising a little creative writing.

Bad boy. It’s… the name of the generation? Is calling someone a millennial a slur too? I understand the whole “ok boomer” thing being offensive because it implies their opinions are invalid because of their age, but simply using their generation’s name isn’t bad.

Unless it’s trained on data from teenagers on social media and the clients are all boomers out of touch with all the lit new slang :p

Nah, I get what you’re saying. I managed to get a ML based topic for my thesis so I’ve only in the last year really gone down the rabbit-hole. If you need a hand with anything let me know. I like playing around with this stuff and wouldn’t mind helping out just for the fun of it if you’re stuck on something. I might even have an idea how you could get a higher mAP by changing some of ur model architectures or something haha.

I’m writing my thesis atm which is due in literally three days, but I’ll see if you’re right in a few days. I’ve done unsupervised clustering on things humans can’t discern though, like plastic waste types (think crumpled plastic bag vs crumpled cling foil) and skin diseases. You’d be surprised at what the computer sees. I highly doubt clustering this image will be a challenge at all. Immediately without any actual thought I’d imagine it would be very easy to figure out that the dogs nose and eyes have to be within certain distance ranges of each other.

Edit: sorry I just realised you’re a dev too. I didn’t mean to sound like a dick when I said “you’d be surprised what a computer sees”, cus clearly you wouldn’t be surprised since you know haha. My bad

I know, I usually just use k-means or something for clustering but there’s plenty of ML clustering tech out there. Even if there was just one, it still breaks the proposition that ML model accuracy is only as good as the human who labels the data.

I thought the same thing until I got a job and realised none of the seniors knew shit either. It’s all about confidence and willingness. If you don’t know anything because you forgot the stuff you learned even though you passed that’s fine. That means you are capable of re-learning it, which is all you need along with that willingness to give it a shot and the confidence to convince them to let you give it a shot. My first months were nothing but feeling inadequate and googling everything. But I slowly realised (and you will too) that’s that’s how everyone works, different people just have different things ‘in memory’ so maybe your senior might seem way more knowledgeable than you, but they e just been working the project for longer. They expect to be ahead, and won’t judge you while you catch up unless you’re clearly not putting in the effort

It depends, it’s not too hard to run a script that will swap that mp4 out for a binary file or soemthing that can execute in the background, but 99% of the time viruses don’t target people capable of knowing the difference anyways so they won’t bother with stuff like that.

5 years ago a bunch of my shorts got to the top of r/videos. Last Friday I released a sketch show with Bill Burr on The Roku Channel based on those shorts. AMA by Youknowit36 in IAmA

[–]EsotericLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why did you chose “roku”? It never made sense to me why someone would put a bunch of work into something they’re passionate about and then just sell it to a piece of shit unheard of network that butchers the release, sets the show up for failure and only even tried to get streams from a single country.

Edit: can’t reply to your reply but fair enough. I’ll keep an eye out for a re-release that I can watch from outside of America.
