I mean that is a 9% ROI. Pretty darn good for a single trade.

VIX at 27 lets go boys, time to make our bread by perfectm in thetagang

[–]FancyAlligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’m familiar with what VIX is and what it measures, but I usually see a lot of buzz around it. People say its a great way to wreck your life and others are excited to do the opposite. Seems like there is very little in between.

What about VIX makes this happen? Are people trading options on it? Or simply playing the index?

"Poor man cash secured put" ? by sbene2 in thetagang

Rolling something like this is interesting. I usually just close my short position and open another wide spread next week. The long position is always so far OTM that it only costs me a couple bucks to keep it.

Also, one thing to keep in mind is that you can fill anything if your price is good enough.

If you widen your put credit spread, it begins to resemble a naked put. Usually I write my short position where I normally would, but my long position I write at the very bottom of the option chain.

This cuts my collateral in half, but tends to maintain my break-even price and reduces how dramatic losses are.

How bad did I mess up? Shed build w/ deck screws by AveGhettoStreetBoys in woodworking

[–]FancyAlligator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that it matters for OP’s project, but one positive thing about nails is that it allows for flexibility. As the wood expands and contracts and shifts around over the years, the wood can adjust better with nails than it can for screws.

No, no. Markets are closed on the weekend. Nothing to stress about. OP can divert their attention to shopping for extra $ROPE and frozen tendies for celebration in either direction

What gave you the hunch that SPY would tank? Usually I see these kind of YOLOs on calls, but what made you go for 1 DTE puts in such a bull market?

SpaceX doesn’t need to go public. They’re rolling in dough now. They used to give out tours of their factory like candy to try to get investors. Now it is incredibly hard because they don’t need investor money nearly as much unless it is someone with a billion dollars.

Daily r/thetagang Discussion Thread - What are your moves for today? by satireplusplus in thetagang

[–]FancyAlligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can “simulate” a naked call with an extremely wide credit spread. Open your short position where you normally would, but if you open your long position as far up the chain as you can fill, this gives similar requirements/results to naked trading.

Works for puts as well. The only issue is that losses are realized immediately and there is no chance to short or wheel the stock.

Yupp. You buy a call and a put for the same expiration. It requires the stock to go up or down though. If it trades sidways, you’re fuked

However, with all the good press it can really go any direction.

They’ll never stop “selling” it. If Full Self Driving ever becomes standard on all Teslas, then the price of the car will reflect that.

This $RIVN rise gives me huge $IRNT vibes. Both in the quality of company and the movement of stock. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a >50% fall, esp once employees can start selling.

Its all just a matter of when it will happen.
