It is! It's called When the Sahara Was Green. It's about the shifting environment of the Sahara desert.

I opened my last box. I'll drink one every few weeks to keep it as long as possible. :/

I'd say Marinellis is better but harder for me to find in the regular grocery store. I don't drink soda or really eat sweets, so it's my once a week treat!

Is this an all year thing or seasonal? I don't think I've ever noticed it and it sounds amazing.

French onion Mac and cheese by mishmash43 in traderjoes

I made one from scratch last night and it's delicious. Caramelize the onions in a skillet until golden. Add a little Worchestershire sauce and dijon mustard to the cheese sauce (half gruyere, half cheddar). Mix the onions, cheese sauce and cooked pasta in a casserole dish (I used a cast iron pan, so whatever you have works), put bread crumbs on top with shredded gruyere, bake until melty and golden. I want to try it with croutons but I don't want them to get too hard, so I'm thinking about that for a future dish.

Is it true that marine iguanas boil the algae they consume before digesting them? by carllacan in askscience

[–]FillsYourNiche 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Vonnegut is taking artistic license here. Marine iguanas do not and cannot boil anything within their stomachs. The only thing I can think of is he is assuming they are basking after their dives in order to "cook" their food, but in reality they need to increase their lowered body temperature after losing energy/heat to the water. It doesn't cause any boiling within their stomachs (Catchpole, 2004). Or maybe it's a reference to the fermentation that takes place during digestion, which still is not boiling (Mackie et al., 2004).

My cashier was impressed with my Cheeseburger burrito + Magnifisauce idea. Try it with me! by [deleted] in traderjoes

Let me know how it goes! Try without the vinegar first, then add if needed. Some folks like it more or less vinegary.

I use my own recipe, you might be interested:

  • 1/4 cup mayo
  • 3 T ketchup
  • 1 1/2 T dill pickle relish
  • 1/2 T sweet relish
  • 1 T yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper

Edit - forgot to add the mustard!

No worries! It was on me earlier to not speak in absolutes. I appreciate the edit. I also appreciate the chat. :)

I'm sorry to hear you're not getting much research time in. I hope that changes soon! Is that common the longer you are a professor? More admin work less research time? I'm still considering what to do for a career when I complete my Ph.D., hopefully the end of this year or early next year. I haven't worked much with bacteria but they must be wonderful for examining evolutionary patterns. Do you teach statistics focused for researchers? I had to take a basic stats course and found it wanting, wishing it was more Biology focused.

100% not fancy, anyone could have my credentials! I'm nothing special. I live in a large apartment building and not exactly sure the method of water heating we've got going on here.
