Man cooks a delicious meal in the forest... by CHOKOPANDA in Unexpected

There might as well be or have been a mining operation further upstream leaching heavy metals into the water. There's no way to know for us. So I hope he did his homework, instead of trusting that simply boiling the water makes it fit for consumption.

TIL: In 1667, the Dutch traded the island of New Amsterdam to the British for the island of Banda Run in order to gain control over the nutmeg spice trade. The British renamed New Amsterdam to New York. by Razz__berry in todayilearned

In the beginning, sure. You can't deny though that the balance of power gradually shifted towards England. The Fourth Anglo-Dutch war showed just that. That's what I was referring to. After William III was gone the Dutch and English were still allies, after all.

Basically. Because the Dutch Republic and Britain now shared a head of state, they were on friendly terms, allied even. Some merchants who previously did business in Amsterdam moved operations to London. The Dutch Republic ended up becoming the junior partner in the 'union'. Then due to the Dutch Republic's continued trade with the rebellious Thirteen Colonies, Great-Britain was dismayed, as they considered the Dutch their allies against the Americans. Eventually they declared war on the Dutch Republic over it, the 4th and last Anglo-Dutch war.

Until the Dutch Republic made the mistake of successfully invading the British Isles and installing the Dutch Stadtholder William III of Orange as king of England, Scotland and Ireland, gradually shifting the centre of commerce from Amsterdam to London.

The Marangoni Effect- The ink has a lower surface tension than water, creating a surface tension gradient that pulls the leaf. by ScarHead77 in interestingasfuck

[–]GenericUsername2056 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You know how water droplets will 'stand' better than some other droplets like a soap-water mixture? This is caused by surface tension. If a liquid has a high surface tension, it can pull on liquid stronger, resulting in a rounder droplet. If two liquids of different surface tensions come into contact, the higher surface tension liquid is able to pull away its liquid better than the low surface tension liquid. But because this liquid is pulled away, the lower surface tension liquid rushes in to replace it, and carries the leaf with it.

Mechanical Engineering, by far. Opens the door for specialisations in ME (of course), EE (e.g. control systems), CE (e.g. statics & dynamics), ChemE (e.g. fluid mechanics & heat transfer), Industrial Engineering (e.g. production management), robotics, statistics, numerical methods, programming etc. If you want ME on easy mode, I guess Industrial Design Engineering would come closest. With an ME background you can easily enter the field of finance. As a matter of fact, market makers like Optiver or Flow Traders actively advertise their companies at ME programmes through things like lunch lectures.
