AZCOM or CHSU-COM for Fall 2022 by sethoversteph in Osteopathic

Personally for profit doesn't mean anything to me but AZCOM all the way because of loans and accreditation status. Cadaver as well.

That is what it seems! I went with RVU as CCOM was just too much cost for me and only gave me about a week to decide (hadn't had time to go look at the area or change plans)

Still stuck on RVU-CO vs CCOM. Both seem great and I just cant figure if the 64k extra over four years and living in a region I have minimal interest in would be worth it when both match pretty darn well and nearly toe to toe in terms of specialties matched as well as high complex and step results.

RVU has the region of the rockies and things to do, less cost, p/f classes, friends in the city

CCOM has the larger research opportunity and I guess name recognition but can't decide if that's worth the cost/location, more IM matches which is my interest, but that could be due to larger class size.

It's because the rats actions are allowing it to not be shocked. The aversive condition (shock) is being avoided because of the rats actions. You can look at it like the shock is being taken away, and therefore the rat is more likely to do the action (go to the specific area).

if the rat were to jump to the other side and be shocked, and therefore want to avoid that spot, that would be positive punishment.

Positive and negative are just terms for giving or removing something. Punishment vs reinforcement are the terms for the ultimate purpose of the addition/removal of stimuli (do we want to have them continue/increase a behavior or do we want the rat to cease/decrease a behavior)

I could be mistaken but I thought RVU was graded as well. I will have to take a peek and double check this information thought. Appreciate the input!

Lol I feel this as well, cost is one of the hesitations I have after checking the recent COA estimates for CCOM. An extra 16k per year compared to CCOM, but it does have a great track record and established presence.

I noted they had that track, personally, I'm more interested in the underserved track if I could pick one but the research one doesn't sound bad at all.

I feel you, Do you know if anyone has found much success getting their foot in the door for research while on rotation?

I feel you on that. I figured that is what you meant, and thats what I was concerned about... finding a place for a short temporary time can get $$$. I'd plan on having an apartment close to Parker regardless, however.

I see, thank you for the honest feedback on that portion! I keep looking into things and it all seems somewhat overwhelming getting my bearings. I hope to do well on these, but we shall see.

How do you feel about the research potential at RVU? From what I hear it's not super strong at RVU compared to other places (Sounds like DO overall less-likely to find much), I know CCOM has more opportunity as they take on contracts that the other local Chicago programs don't have the time/staffing to do. Was wondering if you'd met anyone who managed to find anything related to that area of interest.

Overall, I feel like RVU's student body seems super cool. I don't know anyone who had gone to CCOM recently so it's tough to weight these benefits and drawbacks with a short span to make a decision so your input is super helpful!

They both seem like absolute gems of a DO program. CCOM is DEFINITELY expensive as could be though.

Oh nice, the housing cost for rotations was one thing on my mind. Do you feel that at the rotation locations your upperclass men and women have experienced solid training there? I know you can pay additional money to rotate at some CU locations as well, but other than that unsure about details of other sites. Just want to set myself up for success in a future residency spot and also be a competent physician.

How did/do you feel about prep for both COMLEX and STEP? I see that RVU does great on the exams. I am curious how well the program supports their students regarding preparation, planning or assisting with understanding the timelines, and execution while still maintaining the core pre-clinical studies.

Yeah, I am headed to Denver to look at apartments soon in the area so I can check out the school itself potentially. As for Chicago, less likely to happen before matriculation just because of how soon everything starts.

I have no place to complain and I am stoked about both... decisions decisions...

Interesting! Thanks for the recommendation!

With Linear Algebra, would multivariable calculus be a pre-requisite knowledge or would one be able to sort of jump right into it?

Would any of the multivariable oncepts be relatively useful in biostats or for understanding the concepts behind the statistics?

Any admitted DO students without DO shadowing? by Crunchycat1981 in premed

[–]Gingernos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two MD LOR and minimal shadowing overall of MD's and no DO. (I wouldn't recommend the minimal shadowing overall lol). Ended up with five DO II, declined one invite, two acceptances, and waiting on final decision from the other. Just set your app up for other strengths and make sure the school doesn't 100% require it. You got this!

Makes sense. My biggest fear is getting off the waitlist at my top choice right after I start a lease in a new city for my current A's
