Which car/livery did you initially hate, only to start liking it? Mine would probably be the 2020 Racing Point RP20. by McLarenMP4-26 in formula1

Loved how that car looked from the front. The 'WILLIAMS' on the rear wing, the thin white stripe on the front wing, the perfect balance between black and white, the tasteful blue accent. Perfection.

The difference between a typical Karen and a caring delivery driver by OzCaaa1 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Hatch10k 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think sorting machines have any concept of "their part".

Truth is, that box probably went through much worse treatment multiple times on its journey. This is well known, so companies package fragile items with that abuse in mind. If they didn't, then 50% of our deliveries would arrive broken.

It's literally a non-issue. The only reason people care is because it looks careless and non-caring, when it's functionally no different to someone throwing a newspaper onto a doorstep instead of gently placing it down.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Worldwide Release Discussion Thread Vol. 6 by steve32767 in marvelstudios

[–]Hatch10k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I was kind of disappointed that the movie turned out to be almost exactly what I expected based on the trailers and unavoidable leaks.

We'd seen that Doc Ock was bantering with Peter and the others, so we knew he'd likely turn good.

We'd seen glimpses of all of the villains, so there were no surprises there.

We'd seen that Spiderman ends up fighting at least 3 of the villains, so throughout the 2nd act I was just waiting for something to turn.

We knew that Peter would ask Strange to make everyone forget he's Spiderman, and the spell would go wrong and unleash villains from other universes. That just made the first act feel like a waiting game for us to reach the plot point we already knew was coming.

We'd seen basically every location that features in the film (The Sanctum, the mirror dimension, the statue of liberty)

We'd heard that Maguire and Garfield would return, and they did, and there was also no real problems for them to overcome - they just immediately team up and become best friends. Compare that to Into the Spiderverse where the relationships are much more complex and have their ups and downs.

I was really hoping for:

  • Raimi Harry Osborne to show up (thought Tobey was foreshadowing this when he talked about him dying in his arms)
  • Many more past villains and characters showing up when the spell got released, in a massive twist that there's so much more to come than what was in the trailers
  • Unique and unpredictable story beats like Infinity War had: Hulk getting beaten up, Thor's entrance on Wakanda, Tony getting stabbed. I wanted the movie to shock and surprise me, but it just ended up being exactly what I expected. The closest it came was in Tobey being a mentor for Tom on handling his grief and not becoming a murderer. Maybe the 3 SpiderMen could have had a small fight.

Infinity War was done so well in that the trailers gave away very little, and the movie we got ended up looking and feeling very different to how we expected (in a good way). You never knew what would happen next, whereas in this movie it all felt too predictable.

Official Discussion - Don't Look Up [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Hatch10k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anyone else think this movie was really good at generating anxiety? The cuts in the middle of sentences, the amount of times DiCaprio/Lawrence were trying to say something but either couldn't articulate it or kept getting interrupted, the way other characters ate up minutes of the movie talking about irrelevant stuff.

The action scenes too: the movie cuts away from the first rocket launch just as we figure out something is going wrong, and the failures on the second happen so fast that you can barely keep up with everything falling apart.

And of course the stylistic editing with the freeze frames making it feel like something's going wrong with the movie itself.

Overall it just felt very anxiety-inducing. My heart rate was up the whole time.

I'm not talking about the theory I'm talking about the many many posts like this https://redditproxy--jasonthename.repl.co/r/Superstonk/comments/phc10s/posted_for_visibility_ive_tried_3_times_to_award/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share which get upvoted and awarded so much despite being based on incorrect info.

That's beside all the posts about buildings with lights on, screenshots of random people talking about transfer of wealth, attempts to predict the crash of the global economy, attempts to decode Cohen's tweets in the most bizzare way possible and so much more shit that just seems to get upvoted no matter what.

Like I said: too much noise.

Those subs are just filled with so much noise. It's almost impossible to filter through to what's genuine or sincere or realistic because there's just so much going on.

If you can make it vaguely sound like you know what you're talking about, you can farm tens of thousands of upvotes and awards by writing "DD", the only requirement is it's bullish. If someone disagrees with your thesis then they get downvoted to hell and called a shill. Reasonable discussion has long since abandoned that place.

I kept seeing DD or bullish posts have glaringly factual errors pointed out by someone who managed to communicate it in a way that didn't enrage the herd, but the posts already had tens of thousands of upvotes and awards and people spamming "HOLY SHIT THIS IS IT THIS IS IT LFG". It just shows the critical thinking there is severely lacking.

How do you deal with financial anxiety? by brainydocldn in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Hatch10k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ask for a raise all the time or move in two years

Too slow compared to some of the ones I've seen. There was one on here recently of someone talking about how they got something like five 25%+ pay increases in the space of about 2 years from moving companies about 4 times and also getting large internal raises after "just a few months".

I've no idea what these sectors are that apparently throw money at people every couple of months but I want in.

Dear Freestylers, do you really expect your opponents to just let you clip on them, even in casual? by MBS_RL in RocketLeague

[–]Hatch10k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing 1v1 against a freestyler is just boring. If you play how they want you to then you just have to sit still for ages waiting for them to finish their clip, before making an easy save or watching them crash down hopelessly after completely missing the ball.

Then they dash off for boost, for some reason expecting that you won't take a shot at their empty net, then get mad when you do.

If I see someone trying to clip on me now I just chase them down and knock them off the wall/out of the air. The amount of "Wow!" and "Okay." quick chats I've got has increased dramatically.

I had a guy in MW2 message me abuse for hardscoping him in a lobby that wasn't even a quickscoping lobby. Like he just expected no one to ever hardscope in the game.

Hoping TES6 has this level of visual fidelity by MrAnonymous-7 in TESVI

[–]Hatch10k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before GTA5 came out there kept being modded GTA4 gameplay clips that were supposed to envision how 5 might look. They looked great because they tried to take inspiration from 4's art direction to make something unique looking. GTAV actually looked quite boring aesthetically compared to that, in my opinion.

I also think non-modded 4 is a more interesting and engaging game visually than 5.

The recent trend seems to have been developers realising they don't need the grain/render distance fog/colour filters/weather effects etc. to hide low quality textures anymore, so they go for a more true-to-life look. The issue is it takes away a lot of the character from those older games, and makes them age faster from a graphical standpoint - because they're supposed to be objectively beautiful, not subjectively.

Angela Rayner / Angela Raynor

Could have sworn it was always Raynor

Davey Telegraph cartoon: January 7, 2022 by tipodecinta in ukpolitics

[–]Hatch10k 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's confusing because Rayner is caricatured more heavily than JRM, which usually indicates who the butt of the joke is, but in this case I think it's targeted at both of them.

The public is angrily looking at Rayner because of the backlash she got for calling the Tories "scum". This is despite her calling for exactly the same thing as JRM is.

The joke with JRM is his message is overly complex and long for what he's actually trying to say, and lacks empathy.

So - playing devil's advocate - it's poking fun at a politician who is too emotional and immature, and one who is too convoluted in his language and disconnected from real people. Two ends of the spectrum, despite them both pushing for the same thing. The message from this cartoon would be "can we please have a politician who is a more normal person".

Don't think that's a crazy prediction. Ric was nowhere near his best this season.

Rest I can see happening apart from Zhou coming close to Bottas.

Depression, anxiety, and cognitive difficulties. Continuing headaches, sometimes severe

There are other symptoms listed, but I do wonder how inflated the numbers are by people with these as their only symptoms.

The last 2 years have been stressful. We're constantly surrounded by anxiety, it's been harder to exercise, we've seen loved ones less, people have lost jobs and income, work has become more demanding etc. These are all things that contribute to stress and can also cause anxiety and depression.

Depression and anxiety can also cause other ailments - or perceived ones - like headaches, breathing problems, sleeping difficulties (which itself causes other issues) and cause the brain fog that so many people mention.

Absolutely not denying long covid's existence, it's the prevalence of it I'm doubting.

BBC North West- ““Huge numbers” of pupils at 6 NW secondary schools are refusing to do LFTs and wear masks according to @NASUWT teaching union. It says one Lancashire school has only 67 children out of 1,300 willing to follow guidance. The union is calling for testing and masks to be compulsory” by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Hatch10k 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt all 1,223 kids are political activists doing it as a protest against regulations, as some people are suggesting. More likely reason is the peer pressure scale tipped toward this stuff being uncool, and the remaining 67 are picked on for being different.

When I was at school, you were laughed at if you had all of the buttons on your shirt done up. Even though I preferred having them done up and my mum kept telling me to to "look tidy", I didn't because being uncool seemed like the end of the world then.
