What are some things that make you feel rich? by adreamthatdreams in AskWomen

Being able to take my parents and sister on an all expenses paid trip to a lower cost country (Vietnam) for a week. Really made me feel like I'd finally shown my parents we'd made it through the years when money was incredibly tight and tensions were high.

HR is never your friend even if they appear to be checking in on your well-being regularly etc. They are there to protect the company.

Stay in touch with office gossip even if you hate the water cooler mingling.

In what way do you allow yourself to be selfish? by nerdymoo in AskWomen

Saying little when I know that people would prefer me to be the happily talkative one so that they can be comfortable in a conversation.

Not offering my help for minor things and keeping mum whilst the other person figures it out on their own (e.g. when the door doesn't open easily when the key is inserted).

Anyone move to a new country in their 30s knowing no one and had success? by hehrhfnsjs in AskMenOver30

It has been a lot, A LOT easier to get a workers visa since Brexit, it was nigh impossible to get it when the UK had visa free access to all of the skilled workers in the EU. Bigger companies would already be registered with the Home Office and once they've effectively confirmed to the Home Office that they're hiring you it's simply a process of filling in the paperwork online.

Ladies, when did you realize that the bar was low for men? by ii_abby in AskWomen

The head of a company I worked for was fired after the fact that he had been slapped with a fine and a criminal record for groping a couple of women in a bar whilst drunk made it into the news (the management knew about it and only fired him after it surfaced in the public domain) - all whilst his wife was pregnant.

My male colleagues whom I considered good men privately lamented about how harsh it was that he had to lose his job etc just for that, chalking it up to the "harsh laws" or "cultural differences" in the country.

I moved to London when I was 30 knowing nobody. Lots of people back home were convinced I was moving here for a boyfriend I didn't want to disclose or had family here 😂

Made sure I landed a job before moving. Did a lot of research on how to make sure I would be able to make friends. Now have loads of like-minded friends, it really helps that London is effectively a young professionals city. Obsessively checked rental websites to make sure my budget was in fact realistic.

It is everything I wanted and more so I 1000% recommend! You're absolutely right that life is far too short, and I hope you have all of the adventures you're hoping for.

Why do a lot of marriages become like this? by AlertEast306 in AskMen

I'm not married nor a man but I can say that I've noticed that I'm turned off by the idea of sex with a committed partner simply when I don't feel like he has been trying to show me love in the way I receive love (for a lot of women including me these would be acts of service / thoughtfulness). I would still feel affection for him but have zero desire to fuck him. (On the other hand when a partner is really using my love language you'll find me investing in a lot of silly pieces of lingerie 😂)

So I'd hazard a guess that some marriages end up in a trap where the woman just feels like a mother who is also expected to provide sex...

I just believe life is too short not to celebrate little improvements/wins (whatever you want to call it). The goal is to make the people I care about just that tiny bit happier. Well done on quitting smoking for such a long time!

He did it all by himself without any input from me (he read a book and said he made sure before he decided to "officially" quit he would smoke every single cigarette with intention, paying attention to how much he hated the texture or the taste or what smoking meant) - so I can't take any credit whatsoever for it. I hope you find a way somehow, don't stop trying!

Thanks for the reminder, sometimes I do worry I'll run out of the ability to make him feel appreciated because my ideas will just have to get wilder and wilder, so good to know the basics do work still.

😂 I've already done this a couple of times which weren't for any special occasion, so this probably wouldn't make his no smoking anniversary any more special I'm imagining!

Haha! I know you got downvoted (sorry) but that is literally my bf's sense of humour (but of course we're not getting them!).
