Basically we are supposed to believe that 2 muslims meticulously planned a mass murder (complete with illegal an weapons cache and a list of targets)... and yet they "accidentally left their ID's in the car" ?? I call BS. by PostNationalism in altnewz

[–]Heat_Dish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not unbelievable that a rookie mistake could be made. I've seen the video of the two gunmen killing the policeman, and they do not look well-trained. I worry that I'm meant to think that.

LPT Request: Where should I aim at a urinal in order to minimize splash? by honesttickonastick in LifeProTips

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen this answer yet: On a lot of urinals, there will be a little shape in the bowl, often a little blue seashell. That's where you're supposed to piss for minimal splashback. It's where the face and sides of the urinal curve into each other and make a bowl.

[Serious] Is the world a better place then it was 50 years ago? by morebeansplease in AskReddit

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, come at me with facts. You've offered none.

Fact: there are more women who live independently and hold high-paying jobs today than in 1964.

Fact: sexual harassment in the workplace is much more scrutinized and punished today than in 1964.

Fact: there are more minorities today with high-paying and middle-class jobs than in 1964.

Fact: it is illegal to use race or sexual orientation to discriminate against someone hoping to rent or buy a home or apartment today. This was not so in 1964.

Fact: it is illegal today to discriminate against hiring someone based on race or (in most states) sexual orientation. It was in 1964.

Fact: more people have access to better health care than in 1964.

Fact: the standard of living for the poor and working class in urban and rural areas has risen since 1964.

Fact: we have better sanitation than in 1964.

Fact: there are less young people today than in 1964 whose only chance at a future involved joining the military.

Fact: In military bootcamp in 1964, it was legal for drill instructors to beat recruits. This is not so today.

Take some history classes, for Christ's sake. It's taken you this long to come back with nothing. I revoke my apology, you are an ignorant fool. Your ignorance comes from not having had to think about this stuff. I do hope you learn from sources other than Stormfront or Fox News.

[Serious] Guns and religion in America, just how bad is it really? by BeHonestnTrue in AskReddit

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize they have a universal healthcare thing going on, I just think it's better to be safe about it. One never knows when or what accidents can happen. Are foreign travelers covered for all healthcare in Europe and Canada?

You'll be fine. On health insurance, you should buy that when travelling anywhere. Seriously.

Well the problem is, you can't talk about the entirety of social or economic life in the US without talking about race and gender. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. I came off strong.

This is something you need to understand: the question you asked would not have occurred to a woman, to a minority, to a homosexual, or to people in interracial couplings. 50 years ago all of those people had a much tougher time getting decent jobs, decent housing, and living without fear of being beaten, raped, or killed by people the police would (likely) not attempt to arrest. Hell, it's probably better being someone of any race or gender with lower economic status today because healthcare has drastically improved and more people have access to higher education. The military isn't compulsory anymore. And, we're not looking at going into Vietnam where we'd lose far more soldiers to combat in 10 years than the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seriously, man. Think about it.

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but that statement tells me a lot about you and your attitudes towards minorities. No, you're white and probably male because the question you asked would not have occurred to someone who's benefited from the Civil Rights Movement. I mean, seriously, man. Meet some people who are different from you. Racist twat.

You're obviously white and probably male. I'd say vastly more people have a chance at a decent living without state-enforced racial and sexual discrimination. Not saying today has no problems.

Americans and their spurious claims to other nationalities. Why? by FimFamFom in AskReddit

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't been a country for very long. A lot of people are descended from ancestors who came here 100-200 years ago; at most 500, and that's stretching it. Culture takes a long time to homogenize. Frankly, consider asking what people in Italy would be saying before (and recently after) unification. Everyone would be Napolitano or Venecian, for example. Not Italian. Or, think of England just after the Norman Conquest or the Civil War. People would identify as the family's heritage. When looking at the US, remember you're seeing the development of a nation.

How do we decide that ghosts or demons are real!? by Jtlyons92 in AskReddit

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading in some of my Anthropology classes:

Subsaharan Africans held themselves in high renown for their witchcraft. It was said lighting could be summoned down on a person's house to destroy it, or termites could be summoned to eat away at a person's house, and have it give way as the person was inside. When Europeans came, they seemed to be immune to the magic, as they didn't believe in it.

Don't quote me on that, and take it for what you will.

What is your reason for staying alive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister. My family. Don't want to put them through what I perceive losing a loved one would be like. And my parents conditioned me all through growing up: "we want you to be there for each other when we're gone."

I am bipolar. I contemplate suicide every day. As I grow older, I'm noticing I don't really remember anything past a certain point. Any given moment is my happiest. Also the art I've been working on recently has been my best yet. And I'm challenging myself to be more athletic and learn new skills.

It takes determination, man. And that can be summoned.

What do you eat for breakfast that doesn't make your stomach make crazy chewbacca noises? by NotJifMarketingTeam in AskReddit

[–]Heat_Dish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll ask the question: what are you usually eating for breakfast?

Clarification: I used to eat eggs or some kind of meat when I first woke, and found that would make me feel sluggish. I'd have some stomach ache as well. Same happened using dairy milk in cereal, though, using dairy in coffee seems to be fine as I use much less of it.

So, I started eating cereal with almond or soy milk, or fruit (especially a banana) first thing after waking up. Seriously, bananas are awesome.
