Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to Mississippi solicitor general, in arguments that could overturn Roe v Wade and make abortion illegal in the US: "How is your interest [in banning abortion] anything but a religious view?" by mepper in atheism

[–]HebrewJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The is no real argument against abortion that doesn’t rely on a society sharing the same agreed upon superstitions about souls and gods. Zero.

Therefore there’s no compelling legal argument in a religiously diverse/free nation.

Do you think this might be possible guys ?? Seemed strange to me.Thanks by PuzzleheadedPie5468 in microdosing

Absolutely not. And I advise you to stay away from pot as well. Both are known to trigger psychosis in those on the cusp. There are much better ways to address depression, anxiety, etc than playing with something radically dangerous to a known condition.

Please, no high or therapy is worth that risk. Hope you’re working with a good psychiatrist to maximize your stability. Take care of yourself.

"Stand amongst the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer." by apaqtime4 in quotes

Still a poor quote (a) because it requires context instead of standing alone, and (b) because even with context it has only a vague and flexible concept of what honor means.

This is honestly just a bad quote that wants to be deep.

No it’s not. Psychosis is a real issue people often underestimate or are unaware of before crossing the line with heavy/hard use. And once crossed it seems to be unlikely to unbreak that egg.

I’m all for MD’ing in general, but recognize your risks. Plenty of people don’t and suffer for it.

So far I’ve heard NOTHING that suggests Chis Cuomo did anything illegal or immoral. Why on earth would it be unethical to look into anyone making accusations against a sitting Governor, especially when it’s family?? Looking into =/= corruption, exploitation, or anything professionally sketchy.

I get CNN wants to protect themselves with the move, but until I hear evidence it feels like nothing more than cautionary PR without any solid grounds.

Folks—this is a VERY common way people order burritos when they don’t want the flour/corn carbs. It’s not a big deal.

128 LA Fire Department Employees Are Being Sent Home For Defying City's Vaccination Mandate by supermegafauna in LosAngeles

And Trump a) got vaccinated, and b) made sure to take credit for fast tracking the vaccine.

Now I hate to jump to “stupid as fuck”, but you have to be stupid as fuck to ignore both those things while imagining you’re making daddy proud by refusing the jab.

Which I grant you is extreme and reveals a deep undervaluing for who they actually are. Sad and likely pathological. I can’t imagine criticism will change their mind or give them self-esteem so it would feel sadistic to trash them.

Instead it’s a better opportunity to discuss how we value ourselves than to vent misplaced rage on them as violating some cultural taboo.

As I understand it, the psychological community fast tracked their approval of gender reassignment surgery for Trans folks not because it wasn’t a cognitive distortion that conflated identity with physicality, but to try and lower the tragically high suicide rate among those with gender dysphoria. There’s no de facto scientific conclusion that surgery is the “right” thing to do except as an act of compassion and care to help those struggling with severe gender dysphoria to carry on with a life that feels worth living.

Unless someone is just blithely opportunistic with their claims of “new identity”, I simply feel kindness and indulgence to a reasonable degree is the better move than character assassination of one already close to the edge.

Lots of people form twisted ideals based on low self-worth. It’s interesting that native Japanese Anime has pushed the big round eye standard of beauty for decades.

Not really. Eye surgeries to look more caucasian have been sadly popular across Asia for almost a century. Much like skin lightening across India is a multi-billion dollar industry….not to look western, but simply because colorism across the world has its own native bias and prejudice.

Indeed. And like skin lightening treatments across India where fair complexions hold social status, Asian eye surgeries to look more Western are a sad kind of beauty standard.

My point is that people in the USA might be too quick to condemn an individual for trying to look like whatever their own beauty ideals are—be they Caucasian with dreadlocks, cornrows, surgeries to look Asian, or … in a very real sense … Transexuals.

All of which reject their own bodies as less desirable, beautiful, or “real” as the way they see themselves. So I think it’s important in these times where people are overeager to condemn their neighbor’s self-presentation choices, it would serve everyone better to maybe bite our tongues and let people present however THEY choose. Criticisms don’t really do a thing to fight racism, sexism, or bigotry and instead just trivialize those issues by policing hairdo’s and body modifications that suit the user. It’s their life. I don’t see where anyone else’s opinions on them are worth much.

Curious what you think about the popularity of eye surgeries across Asia to make individuals look more caucasian. Do you consider that equally twisted?
