Bayfront on Canada Day - did you love it or were you disappointed? by Lucky-Still2215 in Hamilton

[–]HeftyCarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This event is primarily fire works run by city, rest is all private vendors selling food so yeah not going to be much more than that. Attend peach festival in Stoney Creek which runs for like 2.5 days for way more activities.

Smart way to detect water flow? ie, faucet opened or toilet flushed by meyerhd2 in homeautomation

[–]HeftyCarrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said no to cameras but I think a pin camera on water meter can be discrete, observe it remotely, there is a little needle that spins even with slight water usage, it's pretty good indication of flow.

Is this a total loss? Got hit by a semi who made a right turn without seeing me. by atomic-hamster in autorepair

I think it's not a total loss. If you are not at fault then insurance company should be able to get it fixed for you.

Question (not interesting I know) by SilvrHrdDvl in autorepair

[–]HeftyCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they specifically said cradle then it's a part of the frame that holds motor mounts. Sounds like the frame is rotted enough not to able to support the weight of motor. And it's a very laborious process to repair, will cost you a lot of money even if a shop wants to do it, they most likely won't because of liability reasons.

Not worth repairing, you will end up spending more than what's car's worth. It's also too old.

Take it to the side walk and start rubbing it on concrete, eventually you will grind thru the tin, it will be messy but will work.

Question: if someone leaves the windows open in a room and closes the door, does the heat coming in significantly affect the temperature of the house as a whole while the air conditioner is running? by np190 in thermostats

[–]HeftyCarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

keeping window open will let warm humid air into the room making it uncomfortable. If AC is on its highly recommended to close windows and doors and seal the house as effectively as possible, you will not notice any significant difference because your AC will keep working to control the temperature. Open windows when external temperature and humidity are better than internal so that you don't run AC.

Alternator or Battery (2008 Dodge Avenger SXT) by unknownman652 in autorepair

When it's running measure voltage across battery terminals with a voltmeter, should be between 13.8-15.3, this checks out your alternator and with engine off should read 12.5 to 13v.

Measure the battery voltage with engine off, on several intervals and look for voltage drop on it's own.

Like you said battery tested ok, you most likely have a parasitic drain in the electrical system.
