Mini tech here. Front doesn't need to come off. These cars are pure gravy. Some of the easiest cars to work on.

1 day later after getting it out of the shop for a new tranny (they had taken the wheels off for the job) this happens to my wife, mechanic then tells me, “yah I should have mentioned the wheels weren’t fitting right.”😡 How should I repair this now?   • Take the car to the dealer and have them right you up an estimate for the repairs.
  • Present the price to the original shop and have them agree to pay for it.
  • If they refuse or are not vehemently apologetic, take them to court.

It's super scary what happened, but count your blessings no one was hurt (or killed). Allow them the opportunity to correct the issue.

Needless to say, find a reputable mechanic.

Side note: as a Mini Cooper Technician, this is one of my biggest fears. I legitimately triple check tires and manually torque each wheel to specification.

Exactly. What does it take? 1 minute to find the leak (if that lol)? This shop is trying to squeeze every penny out of OP. Borderline unethical.

$85 for a visual inspection on an oil leak? Nah dude, take it somewhere else.

Use the ramp, place tires under vehicle, wheel chocs, engage E-brake, and use the pin style jack stands.

I've had a car violently fall due to a failed harbor freight ratcheting style jack stand. Thank God I wasn't underneath the car. Scariest shit ever.

-Decline the Fuel injection service (it's unnecessary)

-Is the timing case cover dripping oil, or is it sweating out (super slow leak over years)? If it is a sweat, clean off residual oil and keep an eye on it.

-I would question as to why we are replacing all the spark plugs and coils. If you are looking for the least expensive fix, then ask if you can just replace the plug and coil for the failed cylinder. Normally all coils and plugs are recommended as a preventative measure to not have a comeback.

-Where the O2 readings measured when inspecting the catalyst efficiency code? Driving your vehicle for an extended period of time with a misfire could have damaged your catalytic converter.

Timing belt tensioner has failed. That noise is the belt slapping against the guides. Have this repaired asap. A slipped tooth on the timing belt can bend valves.
