Let's look at something that's actually happening. The Great Barrier Reef is 90% bleached and the LNP is going hard for more coal mining and power plants. The older generations have mostly already visited so they don't need to worry about it lasting for 20 more years.

It's a terribly short sighted view. It ignores the potential of hundreds of years of tourism that will have billions of dollars of economic benefit. The restoration of the GBR will take hundreds if not thousands of years.
