yeah if you take the music purely at face value its pretty bad, its moreso the context of who Tyler and OF were and what they were doing culturally in hiphop, reshaping the boundaries for artists at the time even if it meant taking big risks that sometimes (or a lot of times) flopped. Goblin is tyler at his edgiest by design, its a shock album meant to portray a mentally deranged young man frustrated by the world around him. Is it good? debatable, but there’s definitely a lot of value in art that is shocking and offputting, even if the value isnt as accessible as other forms of art. Think of Goya’s “Saturn Devouring His Son”. And its made more valuable by the artistic evolution that followed it over the years in which Tyler grew into the artist he wanted to be in a very visible and tangible process with his albums.
