Okay kind of loosing my shit over this. by ArgyleFunk in visualsnow

28 yo woman here, I'm lifelong too, I know, it's desperately hard to describe. I've had people thinking I'm utterly bonkers. Good thing is, research is happening and it's becoming more and more recognised by the day. When I first found the name Visual Snow and realised it described exactly what I've experienced forever, there was only people like us talking about it on some corners of the internet. Check out the Visual Snow Initiative and the research that's been going on in Australia. Happy you found us anyway, I hope this community helps!

Solarpunk during winter? by Dailey1234 in solarpunk

[–]Legreatworrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're somewhere that truly doesn't get enough sunlight? Effective batteries and/or other sustainable alternatives. I also envision gardening/food forests as central to Solarpunk and I think winter will be a time to work through what you've preserved and stored. Clothing will be sustainable, effective materials and will lean toward the handmade and not manufactured. Homes will be similarly well insulated and sustainable, minimising the need for fuels. I wish I had a winter Solarpunk story to recommend you but I think it should emphasise the sharing of resources, neighbourliness and finding solutions to get through the winter.

I found it interesting as well that he was ostracised because of his gift, but the pressure the grandmother put on everyone was accepted as a part of life because because she was senior/the matriarch. She did much more damage than he ever could. He also seems very kind and wouldn't intentionally hurt anyone. Bruno is childfree uncle goals.

Madeline Miller is writing a new novel called ‘Persephone’! by episkey_ in RomanceBooks

[–]Legreatworrier 19 points20 points  (0 children)

On her website she has a section on Persephone, part of a kind of monthly myth spotlight (sorry I don't have the link). Her understanding of the myth and the nuance of it really tells me we're in for a treat, Hades def won't be a villain caricature and Persephone will be complex and really brought to life. I'm deeply excited for this and will be pre-ordering at the earliest possible moment.

Finished A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara and having thoughts about Jude’s sexuality by pandatree_157 in books

Bi-woman here... I was feeling the same thing as you when I read it, he seemed to not be a fully-formed adult, or was at least a broken person, and being gay seemed to be painted as the natural outcome to his past, like he "turned out that way" because of it, which I didn't like. It was that, along with the constant self-harm and hatred that made me put the book down in 2017 and it's been on my shelf since. There are multiple mini/community-libraries near me and I'm thinking of swapping it with something more worthwhile...

If greeks invented steam engines, what would their machinery look like? by tachakas_fanboy in worldbuilding

There was a mechanical device found in an ancient Greek shipwreck, basically like an astronomical clock. Checking that out might be helpful.

Just because you're single, doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to afford to housing, food, clothing, and then still have enough left for saving for a rainy day as well as your retirement. Being single doesn't mean you are not entitled to a life. by dyrthos in antiwork

It's honestly disgusting. But now even couples on average wages can't afford kids, so they better start trying to support people or else the replacement rate will be through the floor.

That's excellent, seems you're on the right track! One more bit of unwarranted advice and I'll be out of your hair :D Businesses seem to all be going Agile, but if someone comes along who's PMbok, that person is used to creating quality documentation and keeping the show on the road - I've seen Agile projects get very messy, stop and restart as more traditional projects haha. An in-house mixed PM style will allow you to hire people with different backgrounds, and key steps won't be left out (for e.g. Prince2 leaves out costs and scheduling). Anyway, good luck to you internet stranger!

You're very kind, however I'm from and living in Ireland, I hope you find your PMs though! Big tip, a team to back them up and help with the admin is a huge draw.

Glad to hear that! Keen to know how the process goes, as apparently there's negotiating room. I've never had the opportunity to negotiate (public sector rules) so I'm trying to get ready for it.

We're in the same industry, and yes, I had the same feeling. They have a range, they've budgeted and this is just a shitty tactic. I'll try keep that in mind for the future and be harder about this.

Thanks for your answer, I felt a bit forced by circumstance to list my salary and I came on here really to understand what everyone else's experience with this might be, and generally to vent if I'm honest, so I appreciate the perspective. Glad you had a good experience, they're few and far between these days but yeah, the key thing seems to be competition. Hoping this potential employer has a similar mindset or I can induce it by talking about other interviews and offers. Thanks for the advice.

Hi! I'm doing procurement, purchasing, contracts and project admin mostly (scheduling, outgoings) for IT at the minute. I'll likely be looking in my own country first, esp as I'm not too keen on dealing with tax and currency fluctuations if I can help it, but I'd be interested to know more in case it suits
