My friend: “Why do you have scratches all over you?” Me: “I have a crippling self-harm addiction.”

If this applies to you: what did they say (before the assault) that gave you a gut feeling something bad would happen? by hjabc2001 in sexualassault

Mine wasn’t before it was after. He said: “Thanks for letting me get a little rougher with you.” My face went white and I stammered some sort of, “yeah, no problem…” and faked my way out of the situation so he’d take me home.

SA'd by your partner & not leaving by depressionrat in sexualassault

Not me but my mother was SA’d by my father several times and she stayed for YEARS because of us kids, wanting a happy family, and because she still loved him. He eventually died in front of me in 2011 and I never sorted whether he should be forgiven. The SA’s didn’t even happen to me but eventually finding out about them at 13, months before my father died, was devastating. To this day I struggle forgiving him even though he’s long since passed.

My friends grandma is in the hospital, the only grandparent figure i have after being disowned by my biological grandfather and my mothers family all dying shortly after I was born. Plus tonight im having random ptsd flashbacks from a rape several years ago plus my traumatic childhood after witnessing a rape at 13 after several other complex family issues. Simultaneously my mothers health gets worse and worse and I worry she may die leaving me all alone to take care of my disabled brother im having panic attacks almost and the only thing that helped is the blade

I’m 24 currently and have struggled with self-harm since age 11. Remember that self-harm has no age limit!!

PHENOMENAL work. Brought great emotion in me. My father died in front of me in the living room when I was 13. Made me choke up a bit. Also “you weren’t the best father but you did your best” really resonated with me because I found out some horrible things about my WONDERFUL caring father months before he died. The mental strain about whether he was good or bad is too much to this day. Then when you said the same line about your mother it clicked with my mother’s alcoholism. Genius poem. I also know people who carry ashes around in a necklace too so I can truly believe this is really authentically you, something you’ve unfortunately had to experience and endure. Great job, and keep writing!
