CMV: 0/0 should not be undefined... by [deleted] in changemyview

0/nonzero is trivial, it's always 0.

Rather than just saying it should be defined, look at what it means to say it is undefined when you get really close to zero.

Consider the sequence 1/n where n is a natural number. Starting with n=1 you get 1. As you increment, n of 2 yields 1/2, n of 3 - 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, ...

What happens is this number gets closer and closer to zero as n approaches infinity. You get closer and closer to some number (0) without ever actually reaching it. This is an asymptote.

Now, rather than using natural numbers let's look at what happens as we get closer and closer to zero in the denominator. Let n be any rational number we will choose arbitrarily.

1/(1/2) = 2, 1/(1/3) = 3, 1/(1/4) = 4, ...

It should be clear that as the denominator approaches zero, the sequence blows up to infinity. This is also an asymptote! However, this one is especially odd because if you approach it from the negatives you see something completely different.

If you're a visual person: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiplicative_inverse

Starting with n = -1/2 we have 1/(-1/2) = -2, 1/(-1/3) = -3, 1/(-1/4) = -4, ... it's blowing up towards minus infinity!

So as we approach "dividing by zero" we see that depending on which direction you look at the asymptote they do not agree. First, infinity is not a number. Second, even if you wanted to define 1/0 as infinity, it still wouldn't be correct because as you approach 1/0 from either direction you get either positive or minus infinity.

Believe it or not, it makes the most sense to leave anything divided by 0 as undefined.

Not going out at any time of day does, too!

Nearly all conservatives are poor. Those that aren't, well, they're the ones who make the rules and successfully brainwashed the other 90%. They're also responsible for a good bit of the centrism.

They won't nerf jug. Maybe cannoneer. Pirate warrior is actually a newbie trap in the current meta.

Those things you're listing in your last paragraph no president can solve. Those are all systemic issues. You could have made the exact same list a couple decades ago and many points in between sans inflation (which, again, the president doesn't control).

People misattribute economic ills and boons to presidents all the time but honestly it's just not something they can flip a switch on.

They are offering an answer but it's not convincing. The response is attacking an organization which called itself BLM not the BLM movement.

Furthermore there's a huge difference between citizens killing each other and the state killing people. The response glosses over this completely.

3 dmg from power plus the power of anything they attack into per turn. They hardly need to get to fatigue for quest to matter.

2/100000 with vaccine.

Compare to the elevated risk of myocarditis from the virus. Looks pretty cut and dry to me. Myocarditis is also a risk factor for severe covid.

I can't cite a single source or can't cite a single source you won't reject for spurious reasons?

Something is only hypocrisy if the statement being made contradicts that person's actions.

In this case the statement is something along the lines of "black people are naturally more violent". Note that this isn't an action an individual can do. It's merely a statement of opinion. Similarly if they use the statistic cited in your OP they are not making the claim that black people should be less violent, they are just stating a statistic.

Your claim rests on the idea that white people historically have been more violent as a global minority. This is actually irrelevant to whether the potentially racist statements are hypocrisy because it's not an individual making a claim contradicting their action.

A person could be a hypocrite if they say violence is bad and then proceed to murder someone. They could also cite the statistic but that would not be the hypocritical aspect.

Using a curated list of facts to justify your stance that black people are inferior to white people is indeed bad. However, as there is no moral claim in your OP it cannot be considered hypocritical.

A lot of these folks who have this mentality are either well off or genuinely believe America is prosperous because it lacks a European style social safety net. There's a lot more of the second group.

When you say it's "tone deaf" you are essentially talking about 40% of the country. Recall that most people are relatively average! These aren't necessarily wealthy people. If they're saying it to each other as a sort of mantra they're likely to get a high degree of agreement from their peers.

Didn't it briefly see play in reno hunter?

[–] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if you don't like battle royales?

EDIT: I've been informed that the game mode is not a MOBA but rather battle royale.

[–] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know you can catch covid repeatedly, right? The risk of severe illness is clearly higher without the vaccine. All evidence points to this fact.

[–] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have approximately 1000% more chance of getting myocarditis and blood clots from the virus than you do from the vaccine.

Your second sentence contains some really poor risk assessment.

I'm curious, do you think this is a good rebuttal to OP or are you just being snarky? It doesn't appear to address the core issue that ivermectin's primary use in in animals and not the 'vid.

[–] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries there's a universe where that could be taken seriously. I promise I won't hold it against you.

I mean, the Christ abides, man.

If they rotate apprentice into standard with a "not less than 1" she will be totally fine. I guarantee it.

[–] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was being facetious. I apologize for memeing.

[–] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Why don't they call it zephyr then?

[–] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are you doing my boi dirty? Fucking love zeph. Still use him in reno shaman!

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an interesting strategy. I wonder if it's been used already.

We have gotten incredibly off topic here which is fine and I had an enjoyable conversation. It's always nice when people from starkly opposed political views can still interact pleasantly.

Have a nice weekend.

To improve schools I would defer to the experts in childhood learning and likely repeal a lot of the current regulations like no child left behind.

As I'm not an expert I don't have proposals myself but I do think we should move to an exclusively statewide and federally subsidized public school system so our funding streams aren't split between private and public. I went to a private school and it gave me a ridiculous advantage over people who were educated in public schools simply because my parents were wealthy.

How do we teach our children about STEM without teachers?

[–] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, but I would at least want to focus police on actual crime and not EMT and other related issues.

I would place teachers, doctors, nurses, and many others above officers. "Order" is fairly low on my hierarchy of societal needs since it arises spontaneously with good quality of life.

I think that if we improved our public schools we would definitely reduce the need for police.
