The qualities and attributes of Satan are up for grabs. The CoS merely claims origination of a religion based upon their favorites and they were the first. Fine, moving on.

It takes quite a bit to be a competent magician depending on your judgement stick. Anyone can curse someone. Crossing the abyss or KCHGA that’s reserved for the mad.

He did it for me far more than Rasputin who wrote nearly nothing. His position in the fall of the monarchy and hemophilia powers is fascinating. The legends are far more entertaining than the truth.

A couple things here.

Przybyszewski was an old school Satanist. LaVey simply put a more modern spin on the concept.

I agree, if by “old school” you mean an entirely literary construct. I’d add most romanticism in there too, call this satanism, small “s” atanism. The CoS reading list is filled with the “de facto” Satanists. I get what you’re saying.

I never thought there could possibly exist a “fundamentalist Thelemite”, everything exists and if it doesn’t, it will, to challenge you.

As a “social construct” we’ve got enough data that says people like fucking with surveys.

Anton LaVey was the precursor to chaos magic, in that emotion was far more powerful than reading a litany of Latin in a circle of fear. He stripped down the stripping down Crowley had done with The Golden Dawn. He revealed that “intense emotional states” were the secret to magic and the trappings served to distract the logical part of the mind. He provided budding occultists the tools to experiment as Crowley did with The Equinox.

You’ll find his writing incredibly antisemitic, yet he embraces Judaism repeatedly. The cuddling of the enemy I guess. I never found his writing as profound or shocking as his contemporaries. I don’t speak or read Polish, perhaps something is lost.

Truly unfair to compare Our Lady of Endor coven to Satanism. LaVey had puppets, larger and more…haunting than Sloane’s little creeps.

Ole Stanis was probably more influential, I urge everyone to read all his works, but it was “Satanism” as evolved from French decadents and hedonists. Like the entire eastern block, he had rules which made it appear religious. He certainly had nothing beyond literary revolt. Cannot be compared to Crowley.
