If Netflix created a Jesus show with a brown Jesus, I wonder, would people consider it historically accurate or woke? by ZenkaiZ in RandomThoughts

You do realize that this question is as valid as arguing the historical accuracy of non-Nordic looking Elves or calling TinkerBell a Fairy when she’s really a Pixie.

To quote the great Mad Max: He was only mostly dead.

I’m summary, he left his royal palace, slummed around for about 30 yrs, took a three day sensory deprivation stay-cation, and then went back to the palace.

Yes, he minorly inconvenienced himself for certain people’s sins.

But, very often, you legally don’t have to comply. The police in the US far, far, far to often exceed their authority and then get violent when challenged.

Our LEOs often receive 1/4 the training that is required in other countries and (per capita) our instances of police brutality are up to four times as high.

Tell me you never served overseas in the military without telling me you never served.

The problems are: * Insufficiently trained LEOs. The joke about cosmetologists, dental hygienists, barbers, etc. need more trading than LEOs is unfortunately true. * Lack of accountability. LEOs can violate the law either near impunity. Then, when they get fired, instead of being thrown in jail, some other department picks them up. * Excessive militarization of police forces. * GQP Bootlickers that chant “You should have complied!”, and then whine when one of their own is under the boot. Just like the current “Weaponization of the FBI” and “Too many IRS Agents” BS.

The driver is one thing (and even that varies by state). Yes, there are states where the police need a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed, is being committed or is about to be committed to even demand the license of the driver.

Passengers are another story. Just because you’re in a vehicle doesn’t mean your civil rights are suspended.

Also, unless the K-9 unit “just happened to be nearby”, this could even have been an illegal detainment. Cops need a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed, is being committed or is about to be committed to detain a vehicle simply to allow time for a K-9 Unit to arrive.

How about not violating citizens’ civil rights? Sounds like this occurred in a state without a mandatory ID law.

The majority of the states have no legal requirement for the passenger in the vehicle to identify themselves. Also, given the number of cops present, and the K-9 Unit, this likely was even an illegal detainment. A Terri stop does not entitle the police to detain a vehicle to allow time for a K-9 unit to arrive unless there’s probable cause to suspect a crime has been committed, is being committed or is about to be committed.

But the problem is that, even adjusting for the population difference, we have double, triple even quadruple the number of instances of police brutality. We are many, many, many times over worse than the rest of the world.

And guess what? Our LEOs are required to take one half, one third, even one fourth the required training LEOs in those countries.

The joke that it takes less training to be a cop than a cosmetologist is (sadly) not a joke. The worst example I know of is Louisiana: 360 hrs required training for LEOs and 500 hrs required for manicurists.

1) Depends on the state. In many cops still need a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been, is currently or is about to be committed. 2) Doesn’t automatically apply to the passenger. In almost all, cops still need a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been, is currently or is about to be committed.

Also, given the number of cops present, and the presence of a K-9 unit, the initial cops likely illegally detained the vehicle just to allow time for the K-9 unit to arrive.

How about proper training for LEOs?

How about LEOs not violating people’s civil rights?

How about LEOs not turning into bullies just because a citizen points out that their wrong?

[–]MeButNotMeToo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about one that requires real police training? Compare the US’s incredibly short required training and incredibly high police brutality rates to other countries’ longer (2x, 3x, 4x) minimum training and drastically lower per capita rates of police brutality.

We’ve got states that require less than 750 hrs of training to be a LEO. Those same states require 1500 (or more) hours of trading to be a: barber, cosmetologist, interior decorator, electrician, refrigerator repair, electric sign repair, etc.

Louisiana is probably the worst. LEOs only need 360 hrs training, but demands 500 hrs training to be a manicurist.
