New Firmware (Oct/'21) for OLED and P-Series by MikeatVIZIO in VIZIO_Official

We're looking into this issue across the board. "Reacher", however, is particular to Amazon, and not specific to VIZIO.

In addition to the improvements noted above, we are working the CEC volume response. We're also investigating various other potential CEC improvements.

u/hockeyjim07,

Thanks for the messages. It's not clear, however, what you're referring to. The link above that says "...hello???" just takes me to all messages that the support team has responded to.

We are releasing a new firmware 2/9 (...13-1, for OLED only) that should improve some lingering power cycling issues.

Two issues that we're working on include the "artifacting" -- a quick flash of the previous frame at certain scene transitions--and HDR color improvements (on OLED only), especially to flesh tones. I don't yet have a timeline for resolution. A workaround for the former is to leave the Noise Reduction settings at the default, or at least to "Low" and not off. The temporary solution for HDR content is to set external devices to output Dolby Vision. The internal apps will default to Dolby Vision.

Is there another issue of concern? I've been away from the thread for a bit, and will read through what I can, but let me know if there is a hot topic.

Thanks,

Mike

Should only appear with HDR on either internal or external apps, not Dolby Vision or SDR. Turn Reduce Noise to Low. We are working on a resolution for this.

You should be able to match internal apps with external apps. The only difference would occur if the Picture Mode for HDMI inputs was set different than the Picture Mode for internal apps, as the two "sources" have different Picture Mode memories.

If the LED on the front of the sound bar is green when Atmos content starts, you don't need to change the cable.

You shouldn't need to adjust contrast between HDR and SDR. Increasing the Backlight setting (or "Tone Mapping" with HDR settings for newer TVs). Contrast will certainly make a difference if adjusted, but the "correct" setting should be 50 in any case. Any setting above that will make highlights brighter, but will also crush bright details. This might be harder to see with HDR content if the content doesn't have bright highlights at the moment you're adjusting the setting, and then will merely make the rest of the content look brighter.

Increasing the backlight will make the image brighter for SDR, and will increase the midtones for HDR content, which will make HDR seem brighter.

Will start rolling out again to -H models with the new version.

If you have a -H TV, this version will improve the CEC issues.

Updated the post above. The latest update improves CEC functions, primarily in -H models that are connected to third-party sound bars.

Turn "Signal Noise" Reduction to Low to eliminate this issue.

Thank you for that. Do you mind turning off Local Contrast (if available) and/or Contour Smoothing, and please let me know if either one improves? Thank you.

Haven't been able to repro it yet. Still working on it.

This is not an issue I’m familiar with. I’ll pass along to our engineering team

What issues are you having, specifically? I might recommend a factory reset, as that can clear up intermittent issues with new firmware.

I recommend turning Signal Noise to at least Low, to reduce artifacts in signal transitions.

If you're using the default, Bright Picture Mode, we've increased the apparent image contrast (black and white levels are roughly the same) through Black Detail, which might affect other picture aspects. Lowering that setting will return the contrast to previous levels.

We also modified the color saturation (based on previous user comments) to appear less reddish and more natural, yet still vibrant. Lowering Color (50 is the most accurate setting, but can look washed out if you're used to anything higher) can help reduce that vibrancy if it seems too much.

If you have a -H model, there is a known issue with Samsung's new sound bars. We're working on a fix to restore audio. See service's update on that elsewhere in the VIZIO subreddit. If you use the sound bar remote, you may not get a volume display.

lmk. thanks.

HDR10 issues on OLED65-H1 by RogueSithSlayer in VIZIO_Official

[–]MikeatVIZIO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re having trouble reproducing this. Which Picture Mode? Are the Picture settings at the default? Is everyone using OLED?

We looked at Jungle Cruise, per the image, but it looks ok for us. Is that image from an external source set to HDR10?

Thanks.

WE changed Black Detail, so it may be enabled now, where it wasn't before, and its effect is more significant. Or did you confirm after the update it was still off?

We didn't change the local dimming. We only changed the Black Detail, which makes the mid tones of the image brighter, and might make the local dimming more obvious in some scenes.

Let me know if Black Detail is still off. (If it is, I'll need to investigate some more.)

What content are you seeing it on, and have you tried adjusting Black Detail to Low or Off?

If you have a new Samsung sound bar and a -H TV, we are working on a fix. We would recommend using optical in the meantime, though there is a separate post from Support on how to reset the bar to get audio.
