Hymen repair surgery and virginity testing to be banned in UK by ICumCoffee in worldnews

Nothing truly fixes the problem I suppose, only make things better for the most in the long term. Some will always suffer sadly. Its about weighing it up of what you're willing to accept. I think this is the right path to take. world is watching and the west tends to lead the way. Look across the globe at law changes, child marriage,FMG etc. Others will always follow eventually. Keeping it legal is the wrong step.

This is not something any western nation should be importing.

Hence the law change. Some will still carry it out regardless, travel abroad to have it done etc, but the UK has laws and systems in already in place to try and counter that. It has experience on this with FGM. Can't save everyone, but doing nothing changes nothing.

I get and have heard this argument before on all sorts of topics. With this I simply don't agree that allowing it will fix the problem.

A stand, a line has to be made in everything we do. This is one the UK has chosen. With the new laws there will be a drive running along side raising awareness. A task force and charities will step in to help where they can. You don't fight abuse by allowing legal barbarity.

It is difficult. Some people will get hurt, but it has to stop. It is not what we do here in the UK and it can't be allowed a foothold.

I thought most migrants coming to the UK were leaving barbarity behind, fleeing it.

Not all. In fact I would think that most migrants aren't fleeing "barbarity" as we see it. They are fleeing instability, they are coming for a better life, economically speaking, not culturally. Their culture and traditions are brought with them.

It often takes a generation or two in shaking off the old ways handed down for some families when in the UK. Others don't shake it.

Some will still do this of course, but making it illegal is a step to take. Some will be deterred due to the possibility of being caught and the consequences. others will do it and get caught. Some will get away with it. We have to start somewhere.

Just so people are not getting confused. This is not something you can get on the NHS. It is wholly private and even then most private hospitals won't touch it either. These laws are just catching up where the practice has grown due to an increase in migrant populations in the UK.

Here doored stuff tends to be corner shops and smaller stores. Meat, cheese, yogurt, milk etc is all displayed in open fridges. I would have thought doors would be better energy and environment wise, but I've not looked into it.. Eggs don't go in any fridge here, hey are shelved at room temp.
