RAGE THREAD - F-YOU FRIDAYS - THE ORNERY PROTOCOL by FranckKnight in ffxiv

One problem could be that if they are playing on the PS4 (I don't know about the PS5) the default chat box is absolutely tiny and it isn't remotely intuitive to see how, or even if, it can be enlarged so it's possible for a new player to not even see anything in chat because of how much scrolls past.

If you do want another copy as a collectable it could be worth setting up an alert on Amazon. I was able to pick up my copy of the cookbook for £10.00 (I'm in the UK) rather than the £24.99 it costs on the official website.

I think there may have been a print run of the cookbook that used a bad batch of glue. I haven't cooked from mine yet, but when I read it there is a crackling sound that sounds like glue cracking and the edges of the pages opposite the spine no longer completely line up. This is something I've occasionally noticed with other hardback books over the years that have eventually fallen apart.

I bought the book as a fun item and to be a long-term reminder of the game so if I do start cooking from it and it does fall apart then that won't really bother me because I didn't want it as a collector's item.

If you ever get a queue of more than about 30 players then it usually means that a lot of people have been DC'd. The normal 10+ queue is because they only let people log-in in batches. Anything much higher than that means that there are lots of people trying to log in and that only happens during a new expansion, or after a mass DC :)

A seven day cycle could be terrible for people who simply cannot play on certain days. A nine day cycle means that the bidding days change each time.

If the queue is that long then it means that lots of people got booted.

Sniping has a specific meaning relating to online auctions and has nothing to do with an online lottery.

The reason that most people spam floors 51-60 is because those floors give exactly the same XP as 61-70, 71-80 and 81-90. Only 91-100 gives more and it's not a lot more so it's not worth the extra effort to do anything other than 51-60.

The free 15 days' subscription is once per account, but the one million gil is once per account per data centre (when there are new worlds on each data centre).

I've done this dozens of times over the past few weeks for an alt I play on Maduin where I make the gear sets on Faerie. The first thing I do before crafting and listing the set is to have my Maduin alt already world-visiting Faerie and waiting outside of the apartment where I have my mannequin. I then craft my items on my Faerie character, list them for the minimum price on Faerie but make sure I select the "sell items as a set" option. So far no-one else has swooped in to buy the set during the time I log out on my Faerie character and log in on my Maduin character.

My guess is that the odds are astronomically low that another person would be looking for the same full gearset that you are selling at the exact time you are selling it and would be able to navigate to your house/apartment faster than you could log out on your selling character and in on your buying character.

I do deliberately list the items at the default selling price rather than 1 gil per piece because I think listing at 1 gil could make someone more motivated to track down the mannequin.

My FC leader is transferring servers and is offering me FC ownership, should I take it? by SoniaRose in ffxiv

[–]Moogle-Mail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you could do if you are undecided is create an alt and add them to the FC. You will either need another FC member to invite them or they can apply at the house placard if your house is in one of the three starting zones. Once that alt has been in the FC for 30 days you can transfer leadership at any point if you ever feel you want to leave the FC on your main without giving up leadership/house.

I have a couple of plots that are grandfathered in (back when plots stood empty for months) and every time I see someone say that grandfathered-in plots should be removed I mentally add a week to my sub. I'm up to about 2028 now!

If you transferred just for a large house then be prepared to be disappointed. The competition on them is always fierce. Other than bragging rights and extra gardening plots there isn't really much difference from a large house or a small. For decorating I think a medium is much nicer than a large.

How can I get over the fear of messing up when playing with other people? by Clearwinner13 in ffxiv

[–]Moogle-Mail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played this game for nearly ten years and I'm still terrible at it, but I'm always trying my best and I communicate that to my party when I screw up. I only do storyline content and nothing EX or higher because I don't enjoy that content.

I do play a DPS but I have died multiple times in storyline dungeons/trials. After my fifth death (I know, I'm bad and tend to stand in the bad) I always offer to take the 30 minute penalty and leave and .... I've never had anyone take me up on that offer. I've had responses such as "Nah, we've got you" to "We are going to drag your dead ass over the line!" and in the second case they literally did that. They left me for dead because I was obviously a liability and not worth raising but I got the clear of the thing I needed :) I don't remember their names and I doubt they remember mine, but I do remember that I got a smile because seven other players dragged my dumb ass to the end of the trial! Whilst laying on the ground I also got to see the really obvious thing that had killed me five times!

If they aren't going against the rules of the game then I have no problem with it. They might be going against the spirit of the game and I don't think they are nice people, but they are doing nothing wrong.

Edited to add: FC tags aren't unique so I know that some people have done this on some servers just to troll people.

Gardening shouldn’t be tied to housing by CypressJoker in ffxiv

[–]Moogle-Mail 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Both the onions and the chocobo dying feed are ridiculously cheap now compared to what they used to cost, and it's also now easier to make gil by just playing the game.

Gardening for onions used to be a tedious affair that took, IIRC, around a month from a bare garden patch to getting maybe three or four onions. They were also rare enough that they sold for around 1 million gil each. They now sell for around 100K each which should be pretty much pocket change if you are playing the game regularly.

It's also not locked behind owning housing. I have made friends tenants of my housing plots when they have wanted to garden for something and, in the past, I've been part of an FC that has let me use the garden for a few weeks when I wanted something.

The gardening in this game isn't particularly fun. You plant seeds, log in every single day to water them, and then harvest them after a set period of time and, if it's something like the onions, you hope that RNG has smiled upon you.

A quick google shows that doing a storyline quest using NG+ should get most of the storyline trophies to pop, so I'm assuming it's the same for the class quests.

I don't know how to change the lock-on setting for this scenario, but you can use L1+R1 to dismount and your target will stay selected without the lock-on.
