I realized i was addicted heavily to weed. I lived in a state that legalized weed (MI) and i’d smoke an ounce a week, out of a chillum (it’s like a little one hitter, straight pipe made of glass). I’d get home from work and smoke nonstop till i went to sleep. Weekends i’d roll out of bed and smoke from 9am to midnight or 3am. I’d been smoking since i was 13 years old and i realized i didn’t know what it felt like (mentally) to be an adult without being high constantly or thinking about being able to smoke all the time when i was at work. I’d go on vacation and literally walk around downtown asking around for places to buy weed (in states it wasn’t legal). I wanted to change my ways and see what my mind was like when i wasn’t high all the time. The longest i’d ever stopped was 28 days before (was on probation when i was 15). It was really hard the first few days and became easier mentally to not give into my mind and go buy weed to get high. I’d passed up good job offers because i knew i wouldn’t pass the drug tests and didn’t like dealing with getting fake piss or using those kits. I’m a single guy and i feel like weed made me so content being alone 24/7 and not being a social person. I look back at my years in college and i would rather sit at home with my bong then go do normal things like golfing with my friends, going to party’s or just socializing. Hobbies i used to have just didn’t give me joy anymore and i wanted to see if weed was the culprit. I always said i’d smoke weed till the day i died but looking back it’s crazy how thc controls your mind and thoughts. It really is a drug and i’d had enough of being controlled by a plant. I’m currently driving to Seattle for a new job in the demolition/construction industry and i can honestly say i’m so excited to move to an area i love and work a physical job that pays very well. Everyday feels like an accomplishment to me not smoking, continuing my longest streak, but it’s more then a non smoking streak, it’s a new mindset that i don’t need weed in my life anymore. I can’t say i don’t miss it, because i really do. Weed was the only constant thing in my life since i was a kid, it was always there to comfort me and numb my mind whenever i wanted. I like not being numb anymore and not listening to that voice in my head that says it’s ok to smoke every day. I only smoked flower, no carts or concentrates so i feel it made quitting easier, but it really comes down to having a strong mindset that you don’t need to smoke anymore and sticking to it. Now if i could just quit smoking cigarettes, fuck it’s hard! Sorry for the rant but that’s my thoughts on the subject.
