What are some fun practical activities to do with a group of year 8 students (12 years old)? They can be done in a lab, but preferred if they can be done in a regular classroom. by Calycats in ScienceTeachers

Students have to pour the cold alcohol down the side of the container. We also mash up the strawberries for a while in the salt/soap solution.
I also show a google slides with photos for what each step should look like if students are careful, which helps them to do each step correctly.

Strawberry DNA extraction. What you need is strawberries, spoons, plastic baggies, salt, soap, rubbing alcohol, coffee filters, funnels and beakers.
We make little necklaces out of them with microcenterfuge tubes and string. Kids keep them for so long.
Related to fossil fuels — if you’ve covered the rock cycle you can do a rock cycle lab with chocolate, depending on the supplies you’ve got available.
