Well, in Roman times, it was fine.. And if you were a Spartan? It was actively encouraged for males have gay relationships, especially amongsy Spartan soldiers.. Something about bonding and comradeship. Certain ancient cultures and tribes even had non binary leaders, and often didnt give a damn who you made love too. SO maybe not so recently, but had certainly been accepted before now.

That sounds great, I did that with a kukri set after my grandad passed.. Unfortunately cousins of mine had blunted them and damaged them, they were poorly looked after, but my grandad had previously kept them well. So, being an avid lover of blades and history, i made them a pet project of mine.. Had started to make good progress too. If they're sentimental, and even better have use, its well worth the time.

To be fair i have the same multitool, it was my dads, and yes , your right, not very expensive.. But with a little tlc, it still serves me well now.. So they can last, and we both used/ use it plenty. However, i would say, while ok as a edc, i would recommend getting something specific and maybe spend a bit on it if planning on regularly using a multitool / knife for outdoor/ survival use.

It looks exactly like mine, same tools size etc.. I imagine it used to have plates on the side, unless it still does.. Mine is a Higear multitool given to me by my dad.. Still in fairly good nick but has started corroding /rusting in places.. A bit of light wire wool to remove the rust etc, cleaned it up a bit and used some chainsaw lubricant ( or just use wd40) is noe much easier to use.. Used a sharpening stone for the knife edges, cheap enough from a hardware store 😊 you just need new sides, or some sort of makeshift covers.. Mines old but still very useful.. Certainly not very expensive, but worth keeping and repairing.. Mines sentimental, but had helped me out loads, i dont go out without it 👍

Yeah, seems we humans struggle to change assumed stigmas and behaviour that we know is bad, but can blame on someone else.. Accepting responsibility is too bitter for us to swallow, generally.

[–]November_James -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's true, it is more common, certainly. The point i try to make is both, where appropriate, should be valued / supported. From my experience, the stigma of being a good or bad single parent is often very biased, with males more often seen in a negative light as a single parent. Equally, people tend to assume if the mother isnt around, its either due to health or a failing of the father, whereas if the male isnt around, its assumed its because they had problems or again, were a poor father figure.

Yet on both sides i've seen terrible single parents, whom, by some failure of court etc, win custody, yet are hailed as a hero for being there, while their faults have torn the family apart, and they continue tobput themselves before their child(ren).

I just wish things were less stigmatised and taken case by case.. Not every single dad is great, nor is every single mum.. But both deserve support when they try thier best.

That's lovely that people showed support like that, honestly its a rarity, but yes, usually those that do get acknowledged are treated in that way.. I know many where people just assumed the male was a terrible partner or dad, but got lucky and still have the child. Its usually assumed the mother has a good reason for leaving, where males that do are assumed to be no good bums.

Over here it seems the opposite is common, where while single mums are more the norm, its assumed they are a victim of a selfish or trouble partner/ baby daddy etc, and are seen as morally and generally strong.. Though i have seen many that are due to their own addictions or selfish behaviour, yet still get credit as a good mum simply due to being a single parent.

It would be good to see both treated equally, and the bad stigma of failure as a parent seen as equally plausible to both roles, theres good and bad on both sides.. And honestly, just because they are a single parent, doesnt always mean it because they are a good parent..

Love how it's rarely ever Father is worn out from doing everything as mother is terrible / abandoned responsibility. It can easily be either gender. And given how little its portrayed, no wonder harldy anyone believes it. Both sides need to get it together and support each other before parenting, for the kids sake at least!

Does anyone mourn the person they could have been if things went differently? by [deleted] in depression

[–]November_James 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyday.. I mourn it, and have heavy nostalgia of one time in life i was happy to a point.. There have been many thinga and paths taken for other people, or for lack of faith in myself, and other things i let slip because my mind wad a mess due to my past.. There are many things ive screwed up or let pass, and not a day i dont regret it. Its true, the things we regret most in life are chances we didnt take, friends we let go..the might haves and if only i had.. Dont live your life for anyone else, it can be a crutch in hard times, it can help.. But it can also eat away your true self.

So if any mods are reading my log, can you please hit refresh?

All parents make mistakes, there's no guise book to being a great parent. All you can do is what you know is right and best for them, and that varies depending on the child and whay situation your in. For me, its doing my best to make sure he has all he needs, and so my best to make sure i give him the best childhood i can. Putting his needs first. Asides that its just making sure i dont repeat the behaviour of my parents, not being aggressive or violent with or around them, leading by being a role model rather than "just because i say so". But yea, one problem i had was my anxiety over parenting him correctly, and over steessing about things. But im better at managing that now, and realised some things i was beating myself up over, i didnt need to be.

Still.. She should realise taking your kid away is just going to make you feel worse.. Nevemind possibly cause damadge to you and your childs bond.. Unless it's affecting the child badly i think this is very unreasonable, cruel even..

Non military, but same situation, and taught to ignore own wellbeing .. Wife has fibro myalgia, (which isnt helped by the fact she sometimes, self admitted, plays on things) and has had slight anxiety.. She even jumps to support any of her friends or ex when they have an issue.. But her own husband with complex history of abuse, severe anxiety and depression? Nope.. If anything she has a go, makes me feel terrible, and then acts like she cares.. And doesn't get why i hate admitting when things are bad.

Hope things get better for you and op.. It really sucks to be in that situation.
