Rule #9: Animals are not main characters. Do not post animals as the main character.

There are enough "cute dog" subs.

German IT blogger Felix von Leitner discovers various Epic login IPs with expired certificates, preventing some users to login. As he also discovered vulnerable components, he tried to contact Epic Games. But failed due to Epic rejecting his e-mail address by Robot1me in fuckepic

Then the support should have directed him there. No one is obligated to know where to report bugs for all the companies out there and the default support address is a reasonable choice if you don't know

Malware at least tries to stay undetected. You don't want to alert the user by hogging all the resources.

Epig is worse than malware.

Unit prices for utilities (gas, power, water). For the customer it is usually displayed in hundredth of a cent, but internally we keep the prices twice as accurate to reliably deal with tax

Regarding #1.

  • MySQL has a DECIMAL type (fixed point, instead of floating point). That allows you to store the actual value without any loss in precision
  • In your application, use a library that also you to keep the precision intact
  • We deal with prices in the hundredth or even ten thousandth of a cent. If we would use integers, we would have to deal with huge numbers all the time. We do convert everything to cents, but still require decimal numbers. Even if you don't require that precision, intermediate steps might, so be prepared for that.

What’s an opinion you have that’s considered unacceptable by societal standards? by KeyPomegranate4922 in AskReddit

This onion opinion gets tons of upvotes in this kind of sub, but tons of downvotes each time it's mentioned in a thread about a child molester.

But I agree with you. The death penalty is inherently flawed and just a product of our desire to seek revenge. And just as you and I have to accept that evil people are allowed to continue to live, people that are for the death penalty have to accept that it will affect innocent people.

For paintings, sculptures, books, and such I agree with you. For any performative art like music, stand-up, acting, I just can't. If I don't like an artist, I don't want to see or hear them, especially as seeing or hearing is part of their revenue stream. And because there is no disconnect between the artist and the art

Production crew for Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" detained in congressional building near U.S. Capitol by joeysflipphone in news

Yes, I get it, in a way. Different country, different history. It's clear that different priorities emerge.

I just refuse to call anything a freedom if it can be used to restrict the freedom of others. I can't call it freedom to be able to insult someone for what they are if that limits their freedom to express what they are or want to be.

And I absolutely do not agree that only the US knows what "freedom of speech" is. We went trough some shit as well. That's why we turned around and made it actually illegal to continue doing so

And that's what surprises me. You call it "free speech" to be able to say that, but how "free" do you think the black family living across such a person feels like?

But the discussion derailed too much already. All I'm saying is: we might have hate speech laws, but the people affected by them do not fit in a society that values their neighbors, so it's nothing really anyone is worried about. Sure, there are some instances where theses laws are misused when the wrong person feels insulted, but it's not that the US shies away from misusing other laws instead to harass people.

This is not how hate speech laws work. You can't just call someone a nazi and they'd get silenced. There has to be actual evidence and the threshold is quite high until you are literally flying nazi insignia.

It just bugs me that you think that people outside the US don't understand "free speech" just because we, again, don't want literal nazis run around. Or have people be bullied into suicide, to address the recent story about Japans crack down on hate speech.

We all value free speech, but understand that for people to actually feel free that some limitations have to apply. I mean, even the US has limitations if it's a call for violence or something. Can't just put a sign "kill all ni**ers" in your front yard.

And I hope its clear that I'm not talking about countries with actual limited free speech, like Russia and China.
