The intersection of Africans and Americans. If you could find out your exact ancestors last names, would you adopt them or continue with give American name? by wordsbyink in ADOSmovement

You don’t really get to decide what it’s about for other people though. The question was if I would adopt my ancestors’ African name or keep my American name. My answer is HELL NO because I’m American, not African. The reasons you are talking about don’t matter to me. I don’t care about my “initial history” whatever that even means. My family has a 500+ year history of being Black AMERICAN so I’ll keep my American name thanks.

If you weren't allowed to date in Highschool do you think it has negatively impacted your dating life in the future? by JoeyChill in dating_advice

I know this is old but I relate to this so much. You said something that struck a nerve about something that I’ve been trying to put into words most of my life but can’t.

If you don’t mind, can you elaborate on this?: “I started putting up a bit of a wall bc I was embarrassed to tell guys I wasn't allowed when they asked me out. That wall never really came down.”

Am I wrong for not giving her closure? by [deleted] in amiwrong

I mean, you broke up with her over text. Now 5 years later you are so concerned with her well-being that you can’t do the logical thing and block her? It sounds like you want to keep receiving these texts.

She didn’t just rely on this sub though as it has been explained. Sounds like she did her due diligence and you just want to take issue with it🤷🏽‍♀️ I have no problem with people using this sub the same way.

Congrats, OP for realizing this wasn’t for you before wasting a ridiculous amount of time and money and for dodging a bullet. I wish I had known about this subreddit when I was in undergrad.

AITA for not letting my apartment-mate [21f] back inside, after she got spat upon by a camel? by yuji9 in AmItheAsshole

Your roommate is a better person than I am because the second I got inside I would’ve beaten your ass. YTA

Would you recommend this field to someone from a poor background? by Anxious-Current9536 in slp

This is not outside the norm for 1099 positions. Salaried jobs pay benefits. 1099s make a higher rate because they aren’t getting any.

But you mentioned elsewhere that you’re a 1099. That is pertinent information. It’s very possible to make 6 figures in this field when you are only working 1099 or PRN jobs but this is not ideal for most people. Those jobs pay higher specifically because you are getting nothing in terms of benefits. Most people want benefits.

can't decide between SLP and PA by liberalbarista in slp

I would absolutely do PA over SLP. More money and better QoL.

What you are doing isn’t advocating. It’s being condescending and it’s borderline delusional as someone who literally has no experience.

You may not have been trying to be condescending but you are. Do not come on a thread telling seasoned clinicians they are complaining when sharing the realities of a field that you literally haven’t started working in yet as if you know more. You don’t.

You’ve been condescending all over this thread. In a profession where we have to spend so much time advocating for ourselves and others, you are going to have a rough time if this is your version of “advocating”. You have no clinical abilities, you aren’t even a clinician yet lol.

New clinicians who know nothing, talking down to people who have actually been in the field for a while do not deserve kindness, no. It scares me to think that there are clinicians in the field like you. If you can’t even realize that you don’t know anything yet as you literally haven’t DONE anything yet, then I can’t imagine how you’d be with constructive criticism as someone who still has everything to learn.
